Fixed my Garmin GPS display - With instructions
My Garmin 1490 GPS had a white horizontal line appear across its display. Then another appeared, and a third appeared. I replaced the original display with this one and now it works like new!
This display does not come with the mounting plate. Simply use the one from the existing display in your GPS.
This display also does not come with a foam gasket. I simply used two layers of electrical tape that I trimmed to fit.
Below are my instructions for replacing the display. Please do so at your own risk. If you don't think you can perform the replacement, do not order the display. You will need a guitar pick and a small Torx screwdriver.
Instructions for Garmin 1490:
Run a guitar pick around the seam along the edge of the GPS housing. The trim ring around the display should snap off exposing 4 Torx screws.
Remove the 4 screws. Run the guitar pick around the edge of the front cover and the cover should snap off.
Gently tilt the display forward and lift to expose the ribbon cable connector behind the display.
Lift the brown tab on top of the cable connector before sliding the out ribbon cable.
Remove the mounting plate from the existing display by gently prying the metal tabs around the edge of the display.
Remove the protective film from the new display.
Snap the new display into the mounting plate.
Use electrical tape to make a gasket around the edge of the new display. Use the foam gasket on the old display as an example. Use two layers of electrical tape for thickness and trim to fit.
Install the new display and reassemble the GPS in reverse order.
Good luck!

Gave My Phone New Life
Works great. Costs much less than a Panasonic battery, yet does the job.

Not Durable
This wallet fits well and looks like it will protect well, however it is not durable. After only 2 months, the lining is starting to crack around the stitches. The plastic holder is cracking, and I am very careful with my phone. Also, be careful of the magnetic closure if you are thinking of carrying credit cards in it. The phone display does not turn off when you close the cover like original BlackBerry casses, but I added a thin magnet in the middle of the card slot on the cover and now, the display turns off.
