solid and makes the traditional deep/Belgian type of waffle
This is just what I was looking for. My daughter wanted a Mickey waffle maker for her birthday that made waffles like the ones we had at a hotel near Disney. This iron makes the deep/Belgian type waffles rather than the flat, almost pancake-like ones that the new irons make. The iron itself (the plates) is nice and sturdy, works really well and feel like it will last a long time. It gets very hot, so we have the iron set on almost the lowest setting so that the waffles are golden. Typically, the first waffle of the bunch is the least successful and then the others are perfect. I spray the iron with cooking spray before each waffle and have had no issues with waffles sticking or ripping, even when my daughter adds chocolate chips to the waffle batter. Very happy with this product. Probably paid more than it is worth, but it was the number one item on my daughter's birthday list, so I splurged.
