Spectre Air Intake Kit FOR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IV (9039)
01 January 2021
Absolute garbage DO NOT BUY!!
At first glance the packaging and assembly instructions were sound. This CAI system is very straight forward to install and doesn’t require anyone with a high degree of experience other than follow instructions if it’s your first time. Classed as intermediate. Issues as follows: It would not be wise to use these SPECTRE couplers or grommet as they are not suitable for the heat generated in the 6.4 HEMI. They will expand, warp, shrink and begin to move with vibration and heat under the clamps and eventually they will deform. I had to purchase an extra reducer coupler that leads from the throttle bottle to intake tube. It was bought individually from another store to replace the original. Same brand and same identical deformation occurred within weeks after replacing reducer coupler. The direction of the intake tube will not match the throttle body or the heat shield opening which led to alignment issues. No matter where I placed the couplers or what direction the intake tube was turned, it was not going to sit flush, which led me to try to bend the heat shield angle and reposition the clamps to alter the intake tube angle. Clamps can not be adjusted more than 3 times as they cross thread and snap. Again I was required to purchased a further 4 clamps from a Melbourne store to replace (all) damaged ones so I could progress with this install. Fragile :The intake tube is aluminium so it will immediately scratch if clamps or tools touch it. Maybe use a temporary cover to provide protection towards the intake tube when proceeding with the installing proc. The IAT sensor is not in a suitable distance when it is finally connected to the intake tube. Again, the grommet will soften in HEMI heat and the CABLE will tend to pull away which then opens the seal to the intake thus creating a new alignment issue. Overall, What should of taken me under 2.5 hours to install has taken several weeks. I am deeply disappointed with the unexpected alignment issues, material is subject to poor quality and having to purchase extra materials that took several weeks to arrive had given myself no confidence in the aftermarket modification in the CAI unit. Test trialling a week of driving, 3 occasions where the reducer coupling dislodged without without warning which created a high potential for engine failure. For the price paid and time invested, I found that when it was finally performing after installation, I felt little difference in power. Throttle response improved slightly and you can hear that it was receiving sufficient air on acceleration . A minor growl. Refund would be great, I’d recommend a MOPAR or JLT. THIS IS Disgraceful. This business has lost my support as I’m certain they would not compensate my loss. I’ve put the OEM back into the JEEP.
