Lots of reading/story for anyone who loves animals
I bought this out of curiosity - never heard of the book or author, I later discovered she'd written a lot of books and is also an illustrator, she has a website.
I thought it would be a slender book but it's a proper sized "novel" all about various animals adventures on a boat and in a boatyard. It is a lovely properly written story that keeps you wondering what will happen next. It has some serious issues too, such as bullying and the death of one of the animals. In that respect it is a mature book, dealing with things that can happen but in a gentle way.
It is a heart warming book and I learnt a lot about boats and boatyards! Later I discovered the author has lived on boats, always had animals, and that Doris was a real cat. Her website shows a pic of Doris, just like the Doris in the pictures. As an adult - and a woman - I was glad to see that contrary to the usual stereotypes, the captain of the ship was a woman, and the vet who visits is also a "she". Little things that I think are important in telling children women can be these things as well.
I loved the story and can see it being read again and again by children and adults alike - it's certainly not boring with plenty of plot and little illustrations throughout. Highly recommended.

Just brilliant
I came across the story and pix of Bob by chance and was intrigued enough to look for the book which I bought as a xmas present for myself! I thought it would be ok I didn't expect it to be SO good.It really is a good read, very enjoyable and you just keep reading and reading. There is a reason why it was a no. 1 best seller! It's just a wonderful book and I am so glad I came across it. It is very well written and a story well told.

adhesive poor
these are pretty but much smaller than I expected from the picture - the front flowers are v. nice, but the problem is the back stickers - they just don't hold I had to use glue in the end.
