Studio Projects C1 Wins Again!
1 of 2 found this helpful I wanted a mic to do home recording with. I knew I couldn’t afford anything close to a U87, but I was prepared to spend $1000/1500. So I was saving up, doing my research and reading every review ever written about a condenser mic. I just happened to run into a friend of mine who makes his living as a "voice over man", and I mentioned that I was saving and looking for a good mic and did he have any suggestions. So he relates this story about how a studio he sometimes does work in has a plethora of microphone choices. One day someone shows up with this Studio Projects C1 and they did some head to head comparisons with the mic locker. The C1 performed extremely well. Then when they found out it only cost $250, they couldn’t believe it! He said now the sound engineer only pulls out the $5000 mics only once or twice a year, using the C1 90% of the time. Now, don't get me wrong, I know it takes a trained professional to use any mic well, and a pro recording engineer could probably make a $50 dollar mic sound OK. I'm sure in my hands a U87 wouldn't be even close to its potential, but the C1 sounds great on all my vocal tracks and I'm glad I bought it. My vocals are clear, smooth and warm. I'm going to purchase another so I can have two for drum overheads.
