Awesomely Hardcore. Will either break you or challenge your skills.
4 of 5 found this helpful I bought this game because my original copy went missing. I wanted it back badly. It is a smooth running game with a difficulty that rivals that of ninja gaiden 1 and 2 (definitely not 3). This game is a hardcore hack and slash that pitts you against tons of enemies that can attack from all sides. Of course you are not alone, for you can summon your legions (up to 5) to help attack all enemies in all directions or pull them together and concentrate your groups attack on a single target to destroy boss type enemies. Imagine doing a 50+ combo in all directions and then pulling all your forces back and continuing to do another combo on the boss, then unsummoning all your guys off the screen while the boss counters with an area attack and summons his own minions and you start all over again- and all in real time. Instead of attacking, you can even call your legions back and set up a defensive line that attacks anything that comes near, for those near death moments where you dont want to die and start all over again because it took forever to get to that point. Yeah, I love this game. I gotta say it really is too hardcore for most people. I've only known a few others who could make it to the 4th stage let alone beating it. I recommend this game to any and everyone as a "challenge" to their game playing abilities. Let the trash talking commence.

Old school Contra. Updated Hardcore challenge. Awesome nerve testing game.
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this game because i always wanted to play it. I have seen it played by my friends but was never allowed to play it (some friends huh, they wanted to beat it first). This game plays just like the original nes contra in that its one hit instant death, all your enemies move in a predictable set of attacks, and you have a huge array of weapons. This contra however, is touched up with what the ps2 can manage. It runs very smooth, there are no powerups everything is available from the start, and every stage plays a little different-from classic styles to hanging off the tops of sewers, to bouncing around on jet skies, and even flying around on missiles. The controls are perfect but completely complicated because of the many play modes. You have to be able to scroll to your desired weapons while evading your foes. Add in the abilities to strife (move in all directions but attack in one) or hold position (stand still but can shoot in all directions, sometimes spaces to stand are limited) and it can get a little confusing or frustrating because you get shot while trying to adjust and die. That being said, this is a very difficult game even though it is predictable. It truely tries to live up to the originals reputation, but not just the game-the beating of the game. I can remember people boasting about going through the original game without dying a single time. This contra however took that challenge literally as you can not die and must attain a 100% kill rate if you ever want to see the ending. Hardcore. I recommend this game but only to the most hardcore of players (no my friends never got close to the end). I like the game, even if I cant make it to the end.

Super deformed street fighters with anime fun.
I bought this game because I love street fighter. This game takes the original formula and adds more fun, depth, and charactor animations than I ever thought I'd see. Imagine an attack where a charactor punches you, turns into a caveman and clubs you twice, and then sits you at the dinner table while reading a news paper only to say "what", than flip the table on you. That was an incredible 4 hit combo! Thats not all, there are always items constantly dropping out of the sky. Some are power ups, some health, and some items are useable projectiles. Dont be fooled, as this game is still true to the original games. You can still do classic jump kick, punch, and cancel into fireballs if you so choose. I love this game for its animation crazyness and simple but intense game play. I reccommend this game to everyone.
