Eye of the Needle
Donald Sutherland's best performance I think. He is ice cold with a molten feeling for one woman. Kate Nelligan is great, vulnerable but strong in her resolve to protect her country in time of war. All characters are well drawn and interesting in their reactions to each other.
The spy story is interesting and takes place for the most part in a lonely and atmospheric location.
This is a unique and well acted and directed movie.

Movie-The Road
2 of 2 found this helpful Dark and depressing but with 2 rays of hope...the story progresses with the main characters, father and son, persisting because of their "inner fire"--a need and desire to live even though the world, as we know it, has vanished and has been replaced by an environmental and social disaster of monumental proportions. The son asks the father throughout the movie if they are still the good guys. The father, while showing a willingness to save the son from all dangers at any cost, insists that they are. At times, the son insists, despite the reluctance of the rather, that the two of them take actions based on the presumption that they are indeed the good guys.
Excellent acting on the part of all, especially the father and son. The movie so convinces that the world has become a gray and dying place that the small rays of hope at the end are intensely beautiful and that hope for renewal is indeed possible.
