Best starter kit at this price, versatile & lightweight, everything you need and nothing you don't
OVERALL - I have been blown away by the quality of this camera and lens combination. Despite its age, the a7ii still holds up very well in terms of image quality, performance, and features.

CAMERA - The 24.3-megapixel CMOS sensor produces stunning, sharp, and detailed images with excellent dynamic range and low-light performance. The 5-axis in-body image stabilization is a game-changer, allowing me to shoot handheld at much slower shutter speeds and still get sharp shots. The autofocus system - while dated - is reliable and fast enough for my needs, even in low-light situations.

LENS - Additionally, the 28-70mm lens is a versatile and solid kit lens that offers a decent range for everyday shooting. The image quality is surprisingly good, with sharpness and clarity across the frame, even at wider apertures. It's also compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around and use on the go. I've had no problems using this lens for everything from street at 28mm and wide open to portrait work in studio at 70mm and f8.

FINAL THOUGHTS - Are there better cameras out there? Yes. Can you find them for this price? Absolutely not. Are they really THAT much better? For most people - no.
The Sony a7ii and 28-70mm kit lens are great value for the money, and capable and versatile enough to handle a wide range of shooting scenarios. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a high-quality mirrorless camera and lens combo that won't break the bank.
