Sony SDM-P234/B - Perfect as Dual Monitors
I have 2 of the Sony 23” monitors (model number SDM-P234/B and run them together with DVI connections. My eyes are sensitive to the nuances of color displays. Sure many LCDs offer shocking realism with bright and very sharp displays. But try using them for Internet or marketing communication type work where you stare at images and text for hours on end. I have a newer HP 24” monitor that is hard to watch as it is so bright. Trying many of the adjustments just do not make it an easy monitor to watch for long periods of time. I find that the Sony offers me almost 40” of linear viewing that is easy on the eyes yet very clear. I can have my graphics programs open as well as MS Word and Publish swapping text and pictures back and forth. No longer do I get lost or waste time using alt-tab trying to find the information that I need. Please not that I am not a gamer so there is no experience to comment on. I believe that Apple uses this panel as well. And their monitor costs a lot more. The Sony is very well made and weighs a solid 17 pounds. The frame is matt black and thin so that placing screens together is easy. I notice that some of the newer displays are lighter and do not feel as solid. Running two monitors I notice no measureable power draw from my UPS Kw display meter. Note that the Sony monitors do not have integral speakers. I have Sony external speakers and I find that most integral speakers are of no use. There is no height adjustment but that does not seem to be an issue with my application. If you are looking for a solid monitor for viewing text and graphics over long periods of time, I could not more highly suggest a monitor other than the Sony SDM-P234/b.

Stainless Guide Rod Replacement
Drop in installation and literally racked it within 15 seconds. Nice smooth finish and looks better than what was left of the black anodized coating.

Obeck XL Air Purifier & Professional Table Top Model
Skeena_north had a very interesting review. Please note that there are no studies that state what the dangerous levels are for a consumer device nor what their effects will be over time. The general rule is to decrease the amount of time of exposure as you get closer to the emitting object. So I decided to measure the distance of several household devices at the 4 milligauss threshold where the level of magnetic field is considered to be unsafe. I am also using a Trifield Meter that Skeen_north used in his analysis. I found that the Oreck Air 8 measured 4 milliguass at about 28 inches. The new model Oreck XL tabletop Professional model measured the same intensity at less than 6 inches. So Oreck has apparently decreased the magnetic radiation given off by their latest model. If this is a concern, consider updating to the Professional model. For a comparison: 19” CRT Television – 30 inches 33” CRT Television – 32 inches Front of Rear Projection TV – 4 inches LCD display 23” – 1 ½ inches measured at center. Base of Halogon Lamp – ¼ inches Mechanical Timer – 4 inches Keyboard of Laptop Computer – 3 inches (intensity was irratic and varied to 40 mg) Iron – 6 inches Tube Stereo Amplifier – 10 inches External Hard drive – 2 inches Air Oasis Air purifier – 8 inches Blue Air 501 Air Filter – 4 inches (measured front and center, unit had no reading at top) So if you type on a lap top computer or iron your clothes, your fingers and wrists are experiencing exposure to magnetic fields of the same intensity as the Oreck XL at 28 inches. It is all relative but one should consider minimizing their exposure if there are any questions. I have used both the XL and the Professional located at opposite ends of a great room. The pre-filter and internal collector cell are removed and washed about every 4 weeks. There is a lot of dust and lint. As I have 3 parrots, I find that my dusting is reduced but my vacuuming is not. My use of the XL has been for a period of almost 4 years. The units are pretty well built and easily serviced. I had the motor bearings go out after 2 1/2 years on the kitchen unit. The bearings are locally available at your Oreck service center and with minimal tools I disassembled and replaced the noisy motor bearings and the fan bearing as well. The part support by Oreck is second to none both locally and by phone. Their technicians can also provide any support required for those less mechanically inclined. I would conservatively assume that their filters can be kept running for many years. Considering the amount of particles collected by these filters, I would suggest one unit for a maximum of 200 square feet. The Oreck Professional would be great for any pet owner who is concerned about the air quality not only for themselves but for their visitors as well.
