Great idea. Not heavy duty. Decent product under right conditions
At first, the concept and design seem good. It does indeed open and latch like an umbrella. Folds neatly away. (I said "no" to recommend as a crab trap, in ocean, off a pier. Read below as I would recommend in many other applications.)
It is also, like an umbrella, held open by "spokes." Unfortunately, those "spokes" are not heavy duty enough to withstand ocean/river currents very well. Mine bent and folded in on itself after 10 or so pulls. Straightened back out, bent main support, it lasted about 5 more pulls.
I think if you were in a fairly calm body of water, placed rather than tossed off pier, it would catch quite a bit. I got many baby shrimp, one crab, and a small silver fish using chicken and shrimp(frozen) in a few hours even with it folding in on itself during pulls.
BTW. There are no instructions. If you are in a moving body of water, regardless of swiftness, it really needs weight(s) to hold in place. I tied triangle lead weights to the legs to make work
