Great idea to preserve a smartphone.
Great idea to preserve a smartphone.
Most smartphones turn useless when unable to be recharged. This often happens because the USB recharging port which is solidary to the phone's motherboard has become faulty due to the repeated plugging and unplugging of the recharging cable. This plugging and unplugging may happen several times in a day.
Adding an adaptor in-between the phone's USB recharging port and the recharging cable works as a buffer, allowing the mechanical stresses to be taken away from the phone's port and preventing the hardware connection between the recharging port and the motherboard to become loose. When the electrical connection is gone there and recharging no longer possible, the best thing one could do is probably to throw the phone away due to high repair costs.
However if it's the adaptor's connection that breaks down due to the repeated use, it is much more cost-effective to just replace the adaptor rather than the smartphone. This is a "smart" solution.

How to recycle USB-A cables
This adapter enables to turn a USB-A cable - mostly used for USB-connected printers and nowadays obsolete - into a long-reach USB-B (female-to-male) extension cable!
