Transition Your Child From His Or Her Cot Into A Funky New Kid’s Bed

When it’s time for your child to move into a ‘big’ bed, you have a multitude of choices, depending on your decorating style, your child’s interests, and your budget.

Moving into a new bed is a big step for your child, so you want to make it as easy and exciting as possible. Therefore, you need to decide whether you want to transition your child into a toddler bed or straight into a single bed.

Here is a selection of different types of beds that you might want to consider.

Toddler’s bed with side security rails

This type of kid’s bed is commonly called a sleigh bed. It features a security rail on either side and high rails at both the top and base of the bed. Although, you can find different styles of this type of bed that don’t have the rails at the base.

Themed toddler beds

Themed toddler beds are usually brightly decorated both on the base and headboards with their particular theme. Themes include popular children’s characters and movies such as Frozen, Thomas the Tank Engine, Cars, Baby Shark and Disney Princess.

Many of these beds are timber framed and some also come with side security rails.

Racing car beds

Racing car beds are usually made from timber and are in the shape of a car. They’re brightly coloured and the mattress sits lower than the side panels. This gives kids the impression that they’re sleeping in an actual car. Some of these beds even come with a pull-out drawer for storage.

Loft beds

For older kids, there are also loft beds. Most of these are set up higher off the ground and need to be accessed using a ladder, similar to bunk beds.

The idea behind these beds is that the area underneath can be either used for storage or for housing a desk or play area.

Sometimes, these beds come as a single bed with a trundle underneath for when your child has invited a friend for a sleepover.
