Bodhrán Irish drums are a very affordable percussion instrument and are suitable for both beginners and professionals. These simple framed Irish drums can sound very rhythmic, even quite soothing, when played by an experienced drummer and when it is a quality, well-made instrument. Sizes of the drum vary from 14-inches to 18-inches in diameter. The head is generally made of goat or calf skin or manufactured from a synthetic material. Many of the larger drums have a crosspiece which can be used as a handle.

Bodhrán drums are one of the finest world drums or ethnic drums on the market. In order to make sure that your drum lasts a long time, it is necessary to look after the skin on the frame. Like with all percussion instruments, it is all in the technique. The drums are held vertically either resting on the knee, held up with the arm or held by the crosspiece. The Irish drums use a consistent up and down movement with the tipper on the lower third of the drum head. It is a relatively easy instrument to play although it definitely takes time to master the sound of the Bodhrán drum like the professionals.
