Setting up and changing your automatic payment method

When you create a seller account, you'll need to add a payment method to pay for any eBay selling fees or charges. You can choose direct debit, credit card or PayPal.

We may email you a monthly invoice that details your seller fees, including fees for listings, sales and subscriptions, refunds made to buyers, and postage label charges. With a payment method set up, you don't need to do anything – we'll charge the invoiced amount automatically by the due date.

Setting up an automatic payment method

Here's how to set up or change your payment method:

  1. Go to your Seller account - opens in new window or tab in My eBay.
  2. Look for Payment methods for seller fees and select Change.
  3. From the drop-down menu, choose your preferred payment method.
  4. Enter your information. For direct debit or card payment, select Save. For PayPal, select Continue.

If you choose direct debit or credit/debit card, you'll need to enter your bank or card details. If your card is declined during verification, while making payment, or at some other time, you should contact your card issuer.

You usually can't use a pre-paid credit card to verify your account.

If you choose to pay by PayPal, you'll be redirected to the PayPal site to complete the process.

Update your payment details at least 2 business days before your invoice date to ensure we use the new information.

How to make a one-time payment

You can make a one-time payment on your eBay seller account at any time using PayPal, a credit or debit card, direct debit, or bank deposit. If you're paying by bank deposit, it's best to allow 10 days for the payment to be shown on your eBay account.

Since you're required to have an automatic payment method on file, be sure you aren't making a duplicate payment when you make a one-time payment for your fees.

Here's how to make a one-time payment:

  1. Go to your Seller account - opens in new window or tab in My eBay.
  2. Look for Payment methods for seller fees and select one-time payment, then enter your payment details.

For bank deposits, we'll give you our account details so you can make the transfer. Make sure you include your eBay account number (e.g. E1234567890123) as a reference.

Payment requirements and late fees

We require that accounts with a fee amount of $1.00 or more be paid in full each month in order to maintain great experiences for buyers and sellers on eBay. If your account becomes past due, and you have an issue paying your fees, you should contact us.

We may suspend or restrict accounts if fees are not paid. You can read more about your responsibility when it comes to paying fees in the fees section of our User Agreement.

Once you set up a payment method, we'll automatically deduct any amount due on the date specified on your monthly eBay invoice.
