Other Leathercraft Tools & Supplies

An ancient practice that was once necessary for manufacturing clothing and goods, leathercrafting has today evolved into an art form. It's possible for skilled leather workers to create attractive outdoor living products to use or even sell, but no matter the purpose of the final product, you'll need tools and the additional supplies that go with this craft.

What Are Some Supplies for the Work Area?

A comfortable work area is vital when working on leathercraft. You'll want a sturdy, flat work surface and bright, overhead lighting. There are some additional building supplies that make your cutting and tracing more convenient, such as a rubber mat, a tooling surface in marble or stone and a cutting board

What Are Some Supplies for Tracing and Dying?

When you have a great idea for a new piece from your animal hides, you'll want to trace the pattern out before carving or cutting it. Later, you'll also want some extra supplies to make dying fur pelts a bit easier. For tracing, make sure you have cutting templates, tracing paper, a stylus and rubber cement. When you are preparing to dye a piece of leather, have a selection of small brushes, sponge pieces and daubers on hand to apply the ink.
