Nike Hyperdunk – An athletic revolution

Since debuting all the way back in 2008, the Nike Hyperdunk has been changing the game. Designed by Eric Avar, and inspired by the engineering of suspension bridges, they were incredibly light.

The Nike Hyperdunk introduced flywire – a light, but strong thread in the sneaker’s upper. Flywire provides a high level of support in all the right places, without adding extra weight and bulk. It is now a key feature of many of Nike Sneakers, including the popular Nike Flyknit running shoe.

This, combined with the innovative Lunarlon cushioning system, made the Nike Hyperdunk a unique entry into the sneaker world.

Nike Hyperdunk – A cultural icon

Brought in to coincide with the Beijing Olympics, the Nike Hyperdunk quickly became the must have athletic shoe for serious ballers. Throughout the late 00’s, and right through most of the 10’s, they dominated courts around the world. From amateur suburban competitions to the highest level of the sport, Nike Hyperdunks were everywhere.

This was in part thanks to the iconic commercial featuring basketball superstar Kobe Bryant jumping over an Aston Martin. The Nike Hyperdunk graced many of the game’s most famous feet over its 11-year run. While most of these players went on to have their own signature sneaker (like Bryant’s own Nike Kobe), they all contributed to the Nike Hyperdunk legacy.

Make a style statement

Despite being replaced by the new AlphaDunk in 2019, the Nike Hyperdunk remains popular. Whether you’re a former baller, or just a fan of their retro-yet-futuristic feel, they remain a must have sneaker.

This is because the Nike Hyperdunk has always been about so much more than just peak on court performance. Their chunky design and classic high-top shape make them a great addition to any streetwear look. They also come in a wide selection of colours and patterns, meaning you’re sure to find a design that suits your taste.
