Offering combined postage

Before you can offer combined postage to your buyers, make sure to update your Shipping preferences to offer postage discounts. See our Postage discounts article for information on how to set up combined postage rules and automatically offer combined postage discounts on your listings.

How to combine postage charges if the buyer hasn't paid yet

If someone is buying multiple items from you and they haven't already benefited from a postage discount, they can select Request total from seller in their shopping cart. You can then send them an invoice with the new combined costs.

First, make sure that invoice requests are enabled on your account. Here's how to check:

1. On the Shipping preferences - opens in new window or tab page, select Edit beside Allow invoice requests.
2. Set 'Requests allowed' to Yes and choose the time period during which you're willing to combine payment for purchased items.
3. Select Save.

To issue a combined invoice to your buyer from My eBay:

1. Go to the Orders section - opens in new window or tab.
2. Select the items you want to combine into a single invoice.
3. Add the new postage charge.
4. From the Actions menu, select Send invoice.

To issue a combined invoice from Seller Hub:

1. Go to the Orders tab - opens in new window or tab.
2. Tick the box beside any orders that need to be combined.
3. Select Send invoice for any of the orders selected.

There are certain situations when a buyer won't be able to request combined postage through the shopping cart. For example, if the items are discounted, free postage is already offered, the listings are set up to require immediate payment, such as eBay Live listings. This option is also not currently available when a Buyer Protection fee applies to the items.

Combining postage charges after the buyer paid

If a buyer has already paid for postage, you can still send items in a single package and offer a combined postage discount by sending a partial refund to the buyer from Orders in Seller Hub - opens in new window or tab or My eBay - opens in new window or tab. You'll need to make sure you upload the tracking number for each of the items in the package.

If buying a shipping label on eBay is required for your items, we don't recommend combining postage after the buyer has paid, because you won't be able to manually upload tracking details to the additional items.

Combined postage eligibility

In certain situations, orders will need to be sent separately and buyers will pay for postage for each item, even if you've set up combined postage. For example, the following aren't eligible for combined postage:

• Click & Collect purchases
• Local pickup purchases
• Items that sell for more than $250
• Items purchased with Best Offer
• Items purchased through Authenticity Guarantee

eBay Live items are eligible for combined postage if:

• Buyers purchase items during an event's shopping window (beginning when your event starts and ending 8 hours after the event start time)
• Items from your event are marked as PAID-WAIT TO POST in your Seller Hub (if you send items early and the buyer purchases more items, the full order won't be combined)
• Items have the same postage policies or combined postage rules

Postage discounts won't be applied to listings with Authenticity Guarantee.
