Selling to benefit charitable organisations

There are two options to fundraise for charity on eBay.com.au:

  • Charity accounts: Registered charities can set up a business account - opens in new window or tab on eBay to start selling straight away. You'll need to comply with the rules for charity listings set out below. Learn more about registering as a seller and creating a listing. Once your business eBay account is active, you can apply to receive reduced final value fees
  • Community selling: Individuals can fundraise by selling items on eBay and donating the proceeds to their chosen charity. You'll need to have the organisation's written consent in advance. After the item has sold, you'll need to transfer the money to the charity using your chosen payment method. Individual sellers pay standard selling fees or Stores selling fees when listing for charity

Rules for charity listings

Charitable fundraising is a highly regulated area. Whether you're selling as an individual or as a registered charity, you'll need to include certain information in your listing. Please be sure to read our eBay.com.au Charity and fundraising policy for more information and guidelines.

You'll also need to comply with all other eBay rules and policies, including listing policies and our rules about prohibited and restricted items. Please note that we don't allow listings that sell an opportunity to win an item or prize – read our Chance listings policy for more information.

Fees for registered charities

We provide registered charities with a significant discount on final value fees. Regardless of which category you sell in, you'll pay just 1.0% of the total sale amount per item (item price + postage and handling charges + any applicable taxes), plus a fixed charge of $0.30 per order (excl. GST).

Charities are responsible for all other fees and selling costs associated with their accounts, including but not limited to any Store subscriptions - opens in new window or tab, listing upgrades and fees for international sales. Learn more about eBay fees.

Here's how to apply for reduced final value fees as a registered charity:

  1. If you haven't already, create a business account - opens in new window or tab on eBay. Learn more about registering as a seller.
  2. Test your account by listing and selling your first item. Learn more about creating a listing.
  3. Fill out and submit an application form - opens in new window or tab.
  4. Validate your charity's details - opens in new window or tab via our partner, Techsoup.

If you are an Australian charity with a business eBay account, you can apply for discounted selling fees. Charity fundraising is highly regulated, so ensure you include all the required information in your listings. If you're selling to fundraise on behalf of a charity, ensure you have their written permission in advance.
