Selling fees without a Pro plan

It's free to list on eBay.com.au, unless you choose to add a listing upgrade. You'll pay transaction fees (final value fees) when your items sell.

Free selling is coming soon

From the end of April 2026, we're making it free to sell for Australia-based sellers with up to $25,000 in annual sales.

  • Eligible sellers listing on eBay.com.au will no longer pay transaction fees (final value fees) when items sell.
  • Some fees may still apply based on your selling activity, such as when using optional listing upgrades or when an item is being delivered outside Australia.
  • There are no changes to listing upgrade fees, but the international sales fee will now be calculated as 3% (incl. GST) of the total amount of the sale.
  • Note that as part of our free selling experience, you'll generally have to buy labels on eBay to send your eligible items.

The updated fees and terms below will apply once we notify you that you're enrolled in free selling. Learn more about our new free selling experience - opens in new window or tab.

Pro sellers will not have access to free selling.

  • If your total sales in the past 12 months is over AU $25,000, you'll be upgraded to our new Pro Starter plan as your default selling experience. This plan has no monthly cost and you'll continue to pay the same transaction fees when your items sell. Pro Starter plan benefits include access to advanced selling features as well as expanded postage and payout options.
  • If you have an eBay Store, it will be moved to the equivalent eBay Pro plan automatically.
  • If your total sales in the past 12 months is AU $25,000 or less, you'll have the option to choose between free selling and an eBay Pro plan. If you currently have an eBay Store subscription, you'll have to cancel it in order to access free selling.

Learn more about our new eBay Pro Starter plan and eBay Pro subscriptions - opens in new window or tab, and refer to eBay Pro selling fees for the fees that will apply to you.

For sellers based in another country, there is no change to the fees you'll pay (including transaction fees) for your listings on eBay.com.au. Please see fees for sellers residing outside Australia.

Different fees may apply for Vehicle listings. Please see Fees for selling a vehicle on eBay Motors.

This page was updated on 27 March 2026 with new fee terms. Our previous selling fees without an eBay Store continue to apply for all Australia-based sellers until we notify you that you're enrolled in free selling.

Most fees and other selling costs, such as postage costs for labels you buy on eBay and refunds to buyers, are deducted from your sales proceeds before the funds are paid out to you. Learn more about how fees and selling costs are charged.

Eligibility for free selling

To qualify for free selling on eBay.com.au, you need to:

  • Have a registration address in Australia, and
  • Sell without an eBay Pro plan, and
  • Sell AU $25,000 or less on eBay in the past 12 months

Note that as part of our free selling experience, you'll generally have to buy labels on eBay to send your eligible items.

Each month, we calculate your total sales on eBay using data from the preceding 12 full calendar months. For example, the calculation in August is based on sales from the previous 1 August – 31 July. We add up your sales across all eBay sites, using the total amount of each sale (including the item price, postage and any applicable tax).

  • If your total sales is over AU $25,000 and you don't have a Pro plan, we'll notify you on the 20th of the month before upgrading you to a Pro Starter plan from the 1st of the following month. The Pro Starter plan has no monthly cost, but you'll pay transaction fees (final value fees) when your items sell. Learn more about eBay Pro selling fees that will apply to you.

  • If your total sales is AU $25,000 or less and you don't have a Pro plan, you're eligible for free selling.

  • If your total sales is AU $25,000 or less and you currently have a Pro plan, you'll have the option to cancel your plan and move to free selling. The cancellation takes effect on the 1st of the following month. You'll continue to pay transaction fees until then if your items sell.

Tip
If your total sales is over AU $25,000, the Pro Starter plan operates as your default selling experience. The Pro Starter plan has no monthly cost. If you have a Pro Basic, Featured or Anchor plan, you can choose to move to the Pro Starter plan and the change takes effect from the 1st of the following month.

Listing fees and optional listing upgrade fees

All sellers get 250,000 free listings per month on eBay.com.au. Beyond that, we'll charge a listing fee. Optional listing upgrades, like adding a subtitle, can help to attract more buyers.

You'll be able to review any applicable fees on the listing form before submitting your listing. Listing and optional upgrade fees are non-refundable, even if your item doesn't sell or you remove the upgrade from your listing.

If you choose to manually relist your item, optional listing upgrade fees apply again. We don't charge these fees again for your listings that are set to automatically renew or relist.

International sales fee

If your registered address is in Australia, we charge an international sales fee of 3% (incl. GST) if the delivery address for the item (entered by the buyer during checkout) is outside Australia.

This fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale and is automatically deducted from your sales proceeds. The total amount of the sale includes the item price, postage and handling charges, and any tax or other applicable fees.

If you don't want international buyers to purchase your items, you can learn how to exclude international delivery locations in our International selling policy.

Fees for not meeting seller performance requirements

Fees will apply to your sales in the following circumstances:

  • When your seller performance is evaluated as Below Standard: If your seller evaluation on the 20th of a month shows that you are not meeting our minimum performance standards, you'll be charged a fee of 5.5% (incl. GST) on the total sale amount for items for items sold in all categories during the following calendar month
  • When your rate of 'Item not as described' returns is Very High: If your service metrics evaluation on the 20th of a month indicates that your rate of 'Item not as described' returns is Very High in one or more categories compared to your peers, you'll be charged a fee of 5.5% (incl. GST) on the total sale amount for items for items sold in those categories during the following calendar month

These fees are calculated on the total amount of the sale and are automatically deducted from your sales proceeds. The total amount of the sale includes the item price, postage and handling charges, and any tax or other applicable fees. We'll indicate which listings are subject to an additional fee on your Seller account - opens in new window or tab.

You can review your performance metrics and status at any time in your Seller standards dashboard and Service metrics dashboard.

Note: If your account is Below Standard and you're rated Very High in your rate of 'Item not as described' return requests, you'll only be charged the fee for Below Standard.

Learn more about our Seller standards policy and Service metrics policy.

Dispute fees

If you're found responsible for a chargeback or other disputed amount as per our policies, we charge a dispute fee of $24.20 (incl. GST) for each dispute.

Seller currency conversion charge

When you create listings or sell items on an international eBay site, eBay may convert your funds to a different currency in order to collect amounts owed by you to eBay, or to payout funds due to you.

For example, if your registered address is in Australia and you create a listing on eBay.de for which fees are due (such as insertion and/or optional listing upgrade fees), eBay will convert your funds from AUD to EUR using the transaction exchange rate applicable at the time of listing, in order to collect these fees. When the item sells on eBay.de, eBay will calculate your payout amount by converting the sales proceeds from EUR to AUD using the transaction exchange rate applicable at the time of the sale.

If eBay converts your funds, the conversion will be completed at the transaction exchange rate we set for the relevant currency exchange. eBay's transaction exchange rate is composed of a base exchange rate plus a conversion charge. The conversion charge is a fixed percentage applied to the base exchange rate and retained by eBay. The base exchange rate reflects rates within the wholesale currency markets applicable to the currency pairing on the day of the conversion, or the prior business day. If exchange rates are set by law or regulation, the base exchange rate reflects the government reference rates.

If your registered address is in Australia, the seller currency conversion charge applied and retained by eBay is 3.3% (incl. GST). If your registered address is not in Australia, please refer to the fee page for your country or region of residence for your seller currency conversion charge information.

Fees for sellers residing outside Australia

In addition to the dispute fees and seller currency conversion charges detailed above, the following fees apply to sellers whose registration address is outside Australia and who don't have an eBay Pro subscription.

Different fees apply when listing in Vehicle categories.

Listing fees and optional listing upgrade fees

All sellers get 250,000 free auction or fixed price listings per month on eBay.com.au, but some limits apply.

Transaction fees

Transaction fees apply when an item is sold and include a variable final value fee, plus a fixed charge per order. The final value fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale per item (which includes the item price, postage and handling charges, and any tax or other applicable fees). If the total amount of the sale is over $4,000, you'll pay a lower percentage for the portion of the sale price above $4,000. These fees are automatically deducted from your sales proceeds.

Variable final value fee – Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) category

5.5% of the total sale amount

Flat fee – Services category

When calculating the total amount of the sale per item:

  • The item price is defined as the winning bid, the Buy It Now price or the offer price agreed between the buyer and seller, and does not include the value of any eBay voucher, coupon or discount offer applied by the buyer at checkout.
  • Postage includes postage charges, handling fees and any additional services paid for by the buyer (e.g. Signature on Delivery).
  • An order is defined as any number of items purchased by the same buyer at checkout with the same delivery method.

Here is an example to illustrate how transaction fees are calculated.

(incl. GST)
$586.30

If your item doesn't sell, you usually don't pay transaction fees. However, if you offer or reference your contact information to another user or ask a buyer for their contact information, in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, we charge a final value fee for introducing you to the buyer. In this case, the final value fee is based on the higher of the fixed price, auction start price, Buy It Now price (if different to the auction start price), reserve price (if applicable) or the price identified between the buyer and seller.

Fees for not meeting seller performance requirements

Additional fees will apply to your sales in the following circumstances:

  • When your seller performance is evaluated as Below Standard: If your seller evaluation on the 20th of a month shows that you are not meeting our minimum performance standards, you'll be charged a fee of 5.5% (incl. GST) for items sold in all categories during the following calendar month
  • When your rate of 'Item not as described' returns is Very High: If your service metrics evaluation on the 20th of a month indicates that your rate of 'Item not as described' returns is Very High in one or more categories compared to your peers, you'll be charged a fee of 5.5% (incl. GST) for items sold in those categories during the following calendar month

These fees are calculated on the total amount of the sale and are automatically deducted from your sales proceeds. Note: If your account is Below Standard and you're rated Very High in your rate of 'Item not as described' return requests, you'll only be charged the additional fee for Below Standard.

  • When you sell an item on eBay, the final value fee is calculated as a percentage of the total sale amount per item (item price + postage and handling charges + any applicable taxes), plus a fixed charge of $0.30 (incl. GST) per order.
    • The item price is the winning bid (for auction-style listings), the Buy It Now price (for fixed price listings or auctions where the buyer chose a Buy It Now option), or the offer price (if the buyer and seller agree on a price using Best Offer, or the buyer accepts an offer sent by a seller), and does not include the value of any eBay voucher, coupon or discount offer applied by the buyer at checkout.
    • The postage and handling charges include postage, handling fees and any additional services paid for by the buyer (e.g. Signature on Delivery).
    • An order is defined as any number of items purchased by the same buyer at checkout with the same delivery method.
  • Final value fee percentages depend on the sale price and your seller performance.
    • A different percentage is applied to the amount per item over $4,000 (i.e. the final value fee for a $5,000 item is calculated as 13.4% of $4,000 + 2.5% of $1,000 + $0.30).
    • If your seller level is evaluated as Below Standard and/or your service metrics are evaluated as Very High, as described above, the variable portion of the final value fees is increased by 5.5 percentage points (e.g. a 13.4% + $0.30 final value fee would increase to 18.9% + $0.30). We'll indicate which listings are subject to the additional final value fee on your Seller account - opens in new window or tab.
  • If you offer or reference your contact information or ask a buyer for their contact information in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, the final value fee is based on the total sale amount, which is determined as follows:
    • Auction-style format: The "total sale amount" is the auction start price, the Buy It Now price (if applicable), the reserve price (if applicable), or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is highest.
    • Fixed price format: The "total sale amount" is the fixed price or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is highest.
  • If the buyer receives a refund, you may be eligible for fee credits.

This example illustrates how final value fees are affected by your seller performance.

These additional charges may apply to your selling activity:

Dispute fees

When you are found responsible for a chargeback or other disputed amount as per eBay's policies, we charge a dispute fee of $24.20 (incl. GST) for each dispute.

International sales fee

If your registered address is in Australia, you pay an international sales fee when the delivery location for the item (entered by the buyer during checkout) is outside Australia.

This fee is calculated as 1.1% (incl. GST) of the total sale amount (including postage and handling, and any tax or other applicable fees) and is automatically deducted from your sales proceeds.

If your registered address is not in Australia, please refer to the fee page for your country or region of residence for your international sales fee information.
