How to add seller managed services to my listings

You can easily add seller managed services to your listings by creating (and updating) a rate table template. This doesn’t require any technical work and the template is currently available within My eBay or via the rate table API.

All you need to do is:

  • Create a bulky rate table that specifies a bulky service.

  • Make sure delivery is arranged by either you or your carrier.

  • The template can only be used for deliveries you fulfil directly to your customers.

Note: The bulky rate table you create will override any delivery services you have specified on existing listings unless the region is not specified in your rate table.

How to enable seller managed services

Attaching your rate table to a listing

Rate tables can be attached to your listings in the following ways:

Option 1 - Listing flow

  1. In the Shipping section, select ‘Edit all options’.
  2. Select ‘Shipping cost type’ as ‘Flat shipping’.
Note: Do not select ‘Freight shipping’ otherwise the rate table will not be applied to your listing.
  3. Open ‘Domestic’ settings.
  4. Add the rate table you created from the dropdown menu to your listing.
  5. Select a default shipping option on the listing page. (This setting will be used for any buyers that fall out of the regions specified in the rate table. We recommend keeping this calculated shipping so that buyers can contact you.)

Option 2 - Business Policies

You can create a postage policy in your business policies which will include your bulky rate table.

  1. Go to business policies

  2. Select the postage policy which reflects your bulky delivery goods and check the box underneath ‘Postage rate tables’.

  3. Click ‘Save’ in order to have business policies update all related listings to this policy.

Option 3 - Using the API

You can find out more about using delivery rate tables through the API here. There are two ways to add a postage rate table through the API:

  1. Add postage rate tables at the listing level. Find out more

  2. Add postage rate tables with business policies. Find out more

After you've added a rate table to your listings, your seller preview will continue to show the default shipping option for your live listings. We recommend reviewing your listings, at least the first time, so you can confirm the services you offer are listed as expected.

How will seller managed services appear for buyers?

Product detail page: Mobile view
  • As displayed in the mobile view of the product detail page, buyers will be able to clearly see the services you provide and the details of each service.
  • Where buyers are eligible based on location, the services will appear on the product details page.
  • The service listed first in the rate table will be the default option at checkout.
  • On the checkout page, buyers are reminded to keep their contact information updated. This information is essential if the seller, or the carrier, needs to contact them.
  • Currently, you’ll only be able to create and add a bulky rate table from your desktop platform. The ability to create rate tables via the APIs will be rolled out in a future release.

Accessing post-transaction information

You’ve offered a range of seller managed services and have sold an item. What’s next?

You’ll be able to access all your order information just as you do now, via Seller Hub, on the ‘View Order’ page, your API (getOrder), or through your third party tool.

  • Can I use an existing rate table and categorise it as a Bulky shipping service under the Package type dropdown?

To offer these additional services, you will need to create a new rate table. Unfortunately at this time, you cannot use an existing rate table and switch it to a seller managed services rate table.

  • What service do I select when I open a new postage policy?

When creating a new postage policy, under ‘Domestic postage’ you need to select Flat: same cost to all buyersFreight: large and bulky items

  • Are bulky rate tables available when posting internationally?

At this time, rate tables are only available when posting domestically.

  • Is a weight rate table based on cubic or dead weight?

Currently, rate tables only support dead weight.

  • What are the benefits of add-on delivery and services for sellers?

Buyers of bulky items often expect certain services like the option to schedule delivery, have their furniture assembled and rubbish removed afterwards. Up until now, these services weren’t an option on eBay.

Now, you can control buyers’ post-purchase experiences by providing additional services for your bulky items. Stores that offer additional services are more likely to complete sales and have repeat purchases from satisfied buyers.

If you have a website or another channel where you offer additional services, you’ll be able to provide consistency to your buyers by offering these same services on your eBay store.

In addition, the number of messages from buyers about which post-purchase services you offer should decrease.”

  • What types of services fall under Seller Managed Services?

Seller Managed Services include delivery and add-on services like

    • The ability to have an item delivered to a specific room at the delivery address
    • Item assembly (note: for simple assembly only, that does not require technological or electrical set up and can be completed within a 10-15 minute delivery window)
    • Rubbish removal after unpacking and assembly
    • And removal of old items from their location
  • How will buyers know that I offer additional services?

Similarly to how a buyer decides on the delivery method they want, they’ll be given the choice to select additional services from a list of the ones that you offer.

  • How do I set prices for these services?

You set the price of your extra services yourself via postage rate tables, and have the ability to offer these services to buyers in specific regions.

You can decide whether you want the buyer to pay the full amount for your extra services or pay part of a fee.

  • How long do I have to provide the additional services to buyers?

You set the period of time to provide delivery of the item along with the additional services to your buyers. As long as it’s within 40 business days (including handling time) of the sale date. You can specify the time it takes within the speeds column of the bulky rate table.

  • Can the delivery of the item occur at a separate day or time to the add on services?

No, the intention of seller managed services is for the delivery of the item to occur at the same time as the add on services. These services provided by the delivery driver at the time of delivery should take no longer than 15-20 minutes.

  • What happens if I don’t specify a delivery speed?

If you don’t specify a delivery speed, we’ll provide a generic 5 - 15 day  estimated delivery date.

  • Which carriers will help me provide these services to buyers?

Some carriers that you may use include Toll or Capital Logistics. You will need to speak to them directly to get rates that suit your business, based on your expected volumes and your from and to destinations. Please do your own research to find a carrier or third party that suits your needs. If you need assistance, please contact your Growth Manager for more information.

  • Why should I offer this service if I don’t offer it on my own website?

Being able to offer buyers extra services that will make their lives easier is a great way to increase your chances of closing a sale. We know that adding extra services to a personal website often means extra back-end development but, on eBay, offering these services is just a matter of selecting which extras you’d like to offer.
