Get fee credits when you refund your buyers
To better support your business when you make things right for buyers, we’re making changes to the fee credits.

You’ll receive prorated variable fee credits for partial refunds, as well as per-order fee credits for buyer requested cancellations and full voluntary refunds.

What’s changing?
From 1 April 2023, you’ll notice an increase in fee credits you receive when you issue partial refunds, full voluntary refunds or have a buyer cancel a transaction.
The full changes include:
-
Prorated final value fee credits for partial refunds: When you issue a partial refund to a buyer, we’ll automatically credit a prorated portion of your variable fee based on the adjusted final sale amount. You’ll also receive prorated portions of other applicable fees, including Promoted Listings Standard and international fees. Certain fees such as the $0.30 per-order fee, Promoted Listings Express fee and Promoted Listing Advanced fee won’t be refunded.
-
Per-order fee credit for cancelled transactions: We understand that buyers may cancel transactions for various reasons at no fault of the seller. In these cases, you’ll receive a credit of the entire final value fee, including the $0.30 per-order fee when you approve a buyer’s cancellation request.
-
Per-order fee credit on full voluntary refunds: If you decide to voluntarily issue a full refund to a buyer, the $0.30 per-order fee will now be automatically included in your fee credit.
Why is eBay making this change?
We want to support you in making the eBay experience better for buyers. While other marketplaces and third-party payment processors apply similar fees in buyer cancellation cases, we know that there are many reasons outside of your control where buyers may cancel transactions.
Whether you are issuing a partial refund or approving a cancellation request, we’ll support your efforts to give your buyers a positive experience with these upcoming changes to fee credits.
What should I do next?
These changes will happen automatically, which means there’s nothing you need to do. Any partial refunds, full voluntary refunds or cancelled transitions will have the adjusted fee credit from 1 April 2023.
