From 1 June some features are exclusive to Pro Plans - Here’s what you need to know
We recently launched free selling on eBay.com.au, making it easier for more Australia-based sellers to sell the things they no longer need. On 12 May, we told you what selling tier you would be in, based on your recent sales activity.
Sellers in Pro Starter with less than $25,000 in total sales in the last 12 months have until 31 May to cancel their Pro Starter subscription if they want to move to free selling with immediate effect. After 1 June, these sellers can still cancel their subscriptions anytime but the cancellation will take effect on the 1st day of the following month (for example, 1 July).

What’s in place from 1 June
Free selling is designed for casual sellers with simple selling needs. From 1 June, some advanced selling features will become exclusive to those with an eBay Pro subscription. You can see here what each selling tier has access to.
This means sellers without a Pro subscription can continue selling for free, but they won’t have access to features such as:
- Multi-quantity listings
- Listings with variations
- Bulk listing tools
- Product research
- Volume discounts
- Team access
- eBay Plus listing eligibility
They will also generally need to buy postage labels on eBay for eligible items. See the full list of features available for each Pro plan on our Seller Centre.

What this means if you’re using free selling
If you’re in our free selling experience, you can continue to list and sell with no transaction fees on your sales. Other fees may apply (i.e. for international deliveries or optional listing upgrades), you can learn more about our other fees here. Since 12 May, a Buyer Protection fee has been added to your listings, with buyers shown an all-inclusive price upfront.
From 1 June:
- If you have active listings using features exclusive to an eBay Pro subscription, those listings will be adjusted. For example:
- Multi-quantity listings will be reduced to a single quantity
- Listings with variations will be placed on hold
- eBay Plus listing benefits — including Plus badging, any relevant shipping subsidies and/or coupons — will no longer apply to your listings
- If you are using Team access, any additional assigned users will be removed
- Volume pricing discounts were removed from 12 May
- You’ll generally need to buy labels on eBay to send your items. You’ll have access to discounted rates from trusted carriers like Australia Post and can drop your orders off at the post office as normal. We also have a printer-free option where you can generate a QR code and get the label printed at the post office when you drop off the package.
- Your payouts will be available on demand so you can request payouts to your bank account at any time
You can choose to upgrade your account to a Pro plan at any time if you want to unlock advanced features or additional postage and payout options.
What this means if you’re on Pro Starter
If you’re on a Pro Starter plan, you have access to most advanced selling features without a monthly subscription cost. You’ll continue to pay a 13.4% final value fee when your item sells.
On Pro Starter, you’ll continue to have:
- Access to features such as multi-quantity listings, listings with variations, bulk listing tools, eBay Plus listing eligibility, Team access and scheduled payouts. See the full list of features here
- The option to choose how to post your items and choice of carrier, including continued access to MyPost Business via Australia Post.
- Buyer Protection included on your listings at no additional cost.
At any time, you can choose to upgrade to a different Pro plan to access more features and lower final value fees.
If your annual sales are <$25,000, you’ll still have the option to cancel your Pro Starter plan, however you'll have to wait until the first day of the month after you cancel to access free selling. You’ll also lose access to advanced features, flexible postage options and scheduled payouts.
If you are on a Pro Basic, Pro Featured or Pro Anchor plan
You continue to have access to our advanced features, flexible postage options, scheduled payouts, API and integration access and our full marketing tool suite. You also have access to eBay’s 1:1 scaling programs.
Other key things to note
Some features still require a Pro Basic subscription or higher
Including volume pricing, advanced marketing and discount tools, APIs and third-party integrations. If you use integrations or tools that connect to eBay through APIs, you’ll need to be on a Pro Basic Plan or above to continue using them.
Subscriptions now work on the usual monthly cycle
After 1 June, subscription changes work on the usual monthly cycle. You can still make changes to your subscription as your selling needs change, but some changes, such as cancelling or downgrading plans, may take effect from the first day of the following month. You can manage your subscription from your eBay account. Learn more about changing or cancelling an eBay Pro plan.
As always, if you have questions, we’re here to help.
FAQS
Why was my listing changed or placed on hold?
Some listing features are no longer included with free selling. If you had active multi-quantity or multi-variation listings, they may have been adjusted from 1 June. To keep using these features, you’ll need a Pro plan. Volume pricing is available with Pro Basic and above.
If I upgrade now, will my listings come back automatically?
If you upgrade from free selling to a Pro plan before 1 June, your multi-quantity and multi-variation listings will not be impacted. If you upgrade on or after 1 June, your listings may still have been adjusted. However, once your Pro plan is active, any multi-variation listings that were placed on hold will be reactivated and you will be able to increase quantities on your multi-quantity listings.
Why can’t I use all selling features with free selling?
Free selling is designed for casual sellers with simpler selling needs. Some features are now exclusive to eBay Pro plans so sellers who need more tools, flexibility and control can choose the plan that best supports how they sell. Pro sellers pay transaction fees when their item sells, and a monthly subscription fee on Pro Basic or higher.
I’m under $25,000 in annual sales. Why would I choose a Pro plan?
Even if you’re under the free selling sales threshold, a Pro subscription may be the right fit if you want access to features that aren’t included with free selling.
For example, you may want to use multi-quantity listings, listings with variations, bulk listing tools, scheduled payouts, eBay Plus eligibility, Team access or expanded postage options. You can upgrade to a Pro plan at any time in your subscriptions page, or explore what you have access to on our various Pro subscriptions.
What happens to my listings if I choose to downgrade to free selling later?
If you cancel your Pro plan at any time to move to our free selling experience, any active listings with multiple items will be adjusted once the cancellation takes effect:
- For multi-quantity listings, your listing quantity will be set to 1
- Listings with item variations will be put on hold. You can create a new listing for each variation
- A Buyer Protection fee will be added to your listings
You may see a notice in Seller Hub when we adjust your listings or put them on hold.
Why do I need Pro Basic for APIs or third-party integrations?
APIs and third-party integrations are advanced selling tools and are now included with a Pro Basic Plan and above. If you use third-party tools or integrations to manage your listings or selling operations, you’ll need to be on Pro Basic, Pro Featured or Pro Anchor.
All Pro sellers, including those on a Pro Starter plan, will have continued access to MyPost Business via Australia Post.
Do sellers using free selling have to buy labels on eBay for every item?
You don’t need to buy labels on eBay for low-value, light-weight or bulky items.
There are exceptions in place for items that are under $20, fit in an envelope, or are heavy (over 22kgs) or bulky (over 104cm in length). You’ll still have flexibility on how you send these items, regardless if you are on a Pro plan or not. When you list your items, you’ll see whether you’re required to buy a label on eBay or not.
When you buy labels on eBay, you'll have access to discounted rates from trusted carriers like Australia Post and can drop your orders off at the post office as normal. Your tracking gets uploaded automatically too, so your buyers can track their item’s journey. We also have a printer-free option where you can generate a QR code and get the label printed at the post office when you drop off the package. Learn more about buying shipping labels on eBay.
Does Buyer Protection apply to Pro sellers?
Yes. Buyer Protection applies across eligible purchases on eBay.com.au.
For Pro sellers, Buyer Protection is included on listings at no additional cost. For sellers who don’t have a Pro plan, a Buyer Protection fee is added to eligible listings and paid by the buyer to eBay.
Am I still eligible for eBay Plus benefits if I use free selling?
From 1 June, eBay Plus listing benefits will no longer apply to sellers using free selling. This means your eligible listings will no longer receive eBay Plus badging, any relevant shipping subsidies or eBay Plus coupons. You can still continue selling with free selling, and you can still keep your eBay Plus membership for buying on eBay. If you want continued access to eBay Plus listing benefits you can upgrade to a Pro Plan.
