AWESOME HD CAMCORDER!!!!

I can't say enough about this camcorder. The HD images this camcoder produces are OUTSTANDING!!! Absolutely the BEST picture I have ever seen on any camcorder. I returned about a month ago from an 8 night trip to Times Square New York City. The video I returned with is beyond comparison. I shot in HD mode with XV Color. My TV display is a Sony KDS-60A3000 which is a 1080p TV. I was able to make HD & SD videos with the included software. The HD video you can make can only be played on a Blu-Ray player. You can also make SD Discs too from the same recorded video. You don't need a Blu Ray burner in your computer or have to buy the high priced Blu Ray Blank Discs. The software lets you make HD discs on regular blank DVD's. I always use Tiayo Yuden 16x DVD+/- blank discs on my 24x optical DVD burner. My computer has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (E-8400) which helps cut down on the time needed to convert/burn a disc. I bought 2 extra batteries and an (Optional) compatible integrated Sony HVL-HL1 video light. The video light is fully automatic and gets it's exposure info (and powered by) from the camcorder. Takes great still photos also. I have the still images default to an external 1GB memory card. My only negative comment is that some of the videos and stills are a little grainy in low light situations. Otherwise an EXCELLENT performer.Read full review...

Good, But Not Great, Camcorder

For the price the camera is really not that great on image quality. Yes, it has a lot of built-in bells & whistles, if you need that inside of a camera, but with easily available post-production software, just an excellent picture and sound should be the goal.
I use this camera strictly for home vacation shooting. It does an O.K. job, but too many control functions that are hard to access.
Transfering footage to a computer can be a problem, so do your homework before making a purchase.
This camera is stuck between a consumer and prosumer catagory, so you decide which.
Although Sony calls it a "prosumer", I would lean more to the "very expensive

AMAZING PRODUCT AND DETAIL

This camera is brilliant. If you want a cheap camera that you can do legit videos on, this is the one. It has a focus dial on the front and you can choose to let it auto focus and it has tons of lighting options, a slomo effect... there is just so much to it. Check the specs on it. All in all a great camera

This is by far the best camera I have purchased. Comes with a docking station to plug charging cable, video cable and fire wire into, so that when you set the camera on it, it will sync with your computer and charge. Video quality is superb! Many great functions. I love it!!!

Update 1-6-2015 I love this camera so much, I purchased another one as backup. Have a squaretrade warranty on both. Both have had to been sent to squaretrade only for a lcd cable replacement because I open and close it alot since I use the camera several hours a day. Remember to always get a squaretrade warranty!! Awesome product, great value!

Great camcorder. Very happy with my purchase! I bought this camera to do a lot of video recording at a variety of locations and it has been able to stand the durability test so far.
