Shame it's a bootleg ...

While the film THE BIG COMBO remains a memorable (and startlingly cold-blooded) piece of 1950s noir melodrama, this edition from ALPHA VIDEO is a very poor quality copy. The telecine from film to video is shocking to watch (and this is a film famous for its stark black and white photography). Due to poor DVD authoring, when you press play the movie jumps straight into the middle of the opening title sequence, as if the first twenty seconds was entirely missing from the recording. The DVD disk itself is undeniably home-made (purple coloured recordable dye-layer instead of the silver metallic surface used by genuine manufacturers). Also the label printed onto the upper side of the disk has been done with an inkjet printer. Need I say more?Read full review...
