A fantastic all-round camera for the beginner or semi-pro.

This camera is a very good option for the beginner or amateur photographer on a budget. It is VERY rugged and build quality is fantastic. It is weather sealed which provides peace of mind out in the field.

The kit lens is not the best, but is versatile and great for starters. However, because the K-7 uses the Pentax K mount, any lens made for the K mount will fit (that's roughly 37 years of lenses).

Function-wise, the camera is fairly versatile. There are many camera setting allowing varying degrees of user customisation.

Video is quite good, with pretty high quality at 720p.
There is a higher recording resolution available, but it is 4:3 aspect ration instead of 16:9. There is not much customisation available for actual video recording settings, although you can lock the exposure.

There are many connections available including video out (SD, usb-RCA) and HDMI out. There is an external microphone input which is a big plus for film makers.

It uses rechargeable lithium batteries which provide exceptional battery life. Most non-Pentax after- market batteries will give very good battery life also.

There are no major downfalls apart from the fact that this model has been replaced twice in the Pentax DSLR line-up (with the K-5 and the K-30).

Used, the K-7 often comes in very good condition and with a very acceptable price tag. This camera is exceptional quality and value and is HIGHLY recommended.Read full review...
