Fantastic Dye for Woodworking
TransTint dyes are as good as it gets, easy to apply with water and very consistent batch to batch. Medium Brown is the perfect base color, especially for a cherry-like finish on maple. You can add in Honey Amber to get a little more orange or mix in Reddish Brown to get more cherry red--medium brown itself has just a touch of red. In my case, I usually perfect the color mix and concentration that I want, then go half-strength as water-based dye to limit splotch on maple. I get the rest of the color by mixing the TransTint with a clear stain base and spraying multiple coats (usually 3-6) until I get the exact shade. In a typical setting, I might dye the wood with a 75:1 water mixture and then spray on a 30:1 stain mix. This stuff goes a long way, 8 oz will be enough for a whole kitchen.Read full review...
