For very specific use, it's great
I wound up in the perfect situation to use one of these things. A board that didn't have a 16x slot, but did have a 1x slot. From what I can tell, it does actually work. The board itself wouldn't detect the gpu but that was the fault of the board, not the fault of the cable. Tested in a different machine, there's an obvious slot bottleneck because you're effectively cutting your bandwidth in half, but the performance loss isn't unforgivably drastic. If you absolutely need a 16x to 1x because your motherboard is jank, then sure, go ahead and buy one of these things.Read full review...
