The reciever has a Lot of scratchy noise when turning the volumn dial. The reception is only fair. Not what I believed and was understood.

Excellent radio for am dx and great for reception
Great for general coverage shortwave, as well as single side band reception.

Using a random long wire antenna reception was outstanding. I now use a Tecsun 660. The two had equal reception,the tone of the 398 was better.
