GOOD QUALITY - EASY TO FIT
This is an excellent soundhole rosette and I'm very pleased with it. I fitted it to my handmade cutaway classical guitar. SEE PHOTOS. It is a lovely guitar with a great sound but the rosette was very dull and spoiled the look of it - surprisingly just a cheap transfer. As you can see the guitar now looks beautiful - a great improvement. The photos are unable to show the glint you get from the rich red sections of the guitar - a kind of 'mother-of-pearlish' effect. Looks very classy.
I was concerned that as I don't have the skill to inset it flush to the body it would stand out proud and look odd. Not at all. It's very slim and black throughout the material with which it's made. So you have to look long and hard to notice that it's very slightly raised. The self adhesive sticks very well.
As the previous reviewer has mentioned you will probably need to cut the rosette at its ends, below where the base of the neck meets the body. Necks come in different widths. My advice - cut BEFORE you remove the self adhesive backing. I used a sharp stanley knife and metal rule. HAVE A DRY RUN. Invert the rosette and lay it over the sound hole to get an accurate position. Mark the self-adhesive paper - an EQUAL measurement on both edges. UNDERCUT. Cut off LESS than you estimate rather than more - because the rosette will not lay flat on the body of the guitar and a degree of guesswork is required. You can alway shave off a little more if required. Repeatedly lay it centrally over the soundhole until you have a perfect fit. Then peel of the backing paper and position it accurately before pressing and smoothing it down thoroughly.
In my opinion this suits spanish/classical guitars rather than folks, GAs and dreadnoughts. It's quite a large imposing rosette which suits the full body and the colour went well with the dark spruce of my spanish. It brightens it up but doesn't cheapen it. It's well made from attractive materials.
