Thrilling, scenic adventure through Russia in breathtaking restoration
This is highly recommended for all interested in film history and also for a breathtaking scenic journey through Russia. Kinopanorama was the Russian equivalent to Cinerama. The work would have been lost forever were it not for the sterling efforts of Dave Strohmaier and team who restored this and all other Cinerama and Cinemiracle productions. These were all 3 strip 35mm camera and projection processes that were very popular in the 1950s as the industry's answer to the threat of TV. The system was extremely cumbersome and expensive to produce and exhibit so with the invention of single strip CinemaScope and 70mm processes it became obsolete. Thankfully the remaining fading and deteriorating materials have been restored to Bluray and preserved forever. All of the series deserve to be seen. The image can be seen in the Smilebox format which replicates the deep curve of the original process. The Bluray extras and program reproduction are worth the price alone.Read full review...
