The Real Caruso was even Greater

As a bio-pic this one follows the Hollywood tradition of putting fiction well ahead of fact. Enrico Caruso's true life story is at least as interesting as any screenwriter s fantasy; foe example he never sang in opera company choruses as indicated in the movie, nor did he even sing secondary roles. Caruso started and ended his wonderful career as a principal tenor, and sang several roles in world premieres. Over almost three decades he came to be recognised and lauded as being among the greatest of the great. It is a happy coincidence that in his first recording his character urged students to listen to him, and over a century later we continue to listen. The movie, nevertheless, has many memorable moments in which Lanza's remarkable voice compels attention.
