Excellent piece of gear
These redarc bcdc chargers work outstandingly well. The solar mppt is excellent and will work in cloudy and shady conditions no worries. My old cheap brand one did not work as soon as cloud came over or if there was a little bit of shade. Also the redarc charger will kick in as soon as the lithium battery is depleted just a little bit. My old cheap one would not recognise the battery needed charging until at least 10% of the battery was depleted. So the lesson I have here is do not buy the cheap ones, pay the extra money and get a redarc, you will not be disappointed!Read full review...

Charges auxiliary battery at a good rate on solar, but does not charge start battery when auxiliary battery is full.
I had a Ctek D025s but had was concerned with the cut out temperature set at 50C. The Redarc is set at 80C and the output of 40 amps means the batteries would charge faster. After setting it up, the solar power into the auxiliary battery was increased from the Ctek. After it was into the float phase, ie fully charged, I thought it would have done the same thing as much cheaper Ctek and start trickle charging the start battery, it did not. I contacted Redarc about this and this was their response: "Thank you for your email
At this stage the BCDC charger does not charge the start battery from solar, it will only draw power on the input wire. Thank your for your query though as this will be passed onto the appropriate department for possible future development."
I think the developers of the product would already know this. For around $700 for Redarc and around $300 for the Ctek, this should already be included. Had I known this I would not have bought it.Read full review...

Best investment I've made
Well worth the extra cash for a quality Redarc like this,
When you're doing an off grid vehicle you need to have total faith in your system and we learnt the hard way by getting a $300 charger that has the same features but blew up in smoke (surprised it didn't light the camper on fire)
We decided this is one thing we couldn't cheap out on in the van so paid the extra for the big BCDC1240D and as soon as it arrived and was installed you could tell the difference in build quality and charging efficiency,
10/10 would put this in every future van build if you know what's good for you.
Don't for a second think that redarc products are way too expensive and not worth the Price. I know that's what I thought at first but then learned about the amount of in house R&D and intense testing and care for the end user. Design Fault
If its Auxiliary Battery management you are after this is a good unit but unfortunately it will not charge your starter battery. If you leave your lights on, stereo system or in my case the anti theft system drains the battery when in storage you will have a flat starter battery. I have had to fit an extra regulator to the solar to overcome this which is unfortunate because it is already a very expensive unit.Read full review...
