A consistent, excellent metal album
Killers is a very intense and fast metal album. The song writing is more ambitious and the playing and production values have become a lot more professional. The instruments are fully interlocking and the synchronization is amazing. The bass guitar is very elaborate, and the guitars have a good sound. Clive does an outstanding job on drums here as he brilliantly plays complex & fast cymbals patterns. He plays very varied partitions, and it contributes to give a prog dimension to this record. Paul's voice is absolutely entertaining, and his extravaganza materialized by 'out of this World' space screams is unforgettable : it's noticeable especially at the end of Drifter, of Innocent Exile and of the titled-track itself. The song Killers is a pretty fast-paced, atmospheric heavy metaler with nice lyrics with a twist in the end. The flamboyant vocals of Paul and the unusual guitar part in the main riff make this a real gem. Innocent Exile has an almost swinging groove in the verses and an adventurous structure for such a short song. Wrathchild became a podium favourite with it's flamboyant style and lyricism whilst the extremely energetic and inventive Murders In Rue Morgue is one of the best songs of this album. The bass part in the beginning is truly a blessing. Another Life is yet another very inventive heavy rock song and I begin to wonder how the band ever managed to get inspiration for such fine rock songs ! Genghis Khan is a very complex, synchronized and fast instrumental; and certainly one of the best by the band. Killers is a consistent metal album. It's got speed, intensity, power, inspiration and the quality of compositions, innocence, progressive tendencies and a good metallic sound. No self-respecting metalhead should ever miss this excellent metal album.Read full review...
