Television and videos not good for children under 2

The name "Baby Einstein" can lull you into thinking it's okay or even good for babies to watch t.v., but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television AT ALL to children under 2 because so many studies have proven its harmful effects on children. Studies have shown that:

- for every hour of television a baby watches a day, their chances of acquiring an attention deficit disorder increases by 10%.
- among babies ages 8 months to 16 months, every hour spent daily watching programs such as 'Brainy Baby' or 'Baby Einstein' translated into six to eight fewer words in their vocabularies as compared with other children their age."
- brain wave activity in babies is slower when watching television than when sleeping.

"Signing Time" (Two Little Hands Productions) DVDs is an option for occasional video viewing because communicating in sign language with your child is proven to:

- reduce frustration and tantrums
- accelerate language development
- promote parent-child bonding

Last thing for new moms - carrying newborn babies (in arms or next to body) an extra 3 hours a day resulted in 40% less crying. So carrying baby in a carrier or sling can help calm fussy babies!

Baby Einstein's Van Gogh DVD is charming, fun and memorable - we loved it!!

When my triplet granddaughters were born in 2004, I purchased a "total" set of 12 Baby Einstein DVD's. From the time they were able to sit up, I would sit down with them on the floor in front of the TV and we would all watch these wonderful, playful and musical DVDs. I don't know what I would have done without them - they would ask for specific ones eventually and were always very interested in what was being seen and heard. With my help and my participation, they were like little sponges. They are now in 1st grade and are very smart and happy little kids. I would heartily encourage any parent to purchase they amazing DVDs and use them for fun first and eventually for learning along with a parent, grandparent or care giver. There are now 26 of them in a set and the price is now half of what it was 7 years ago. We lost the Baby Van Gogh DVD somewhere in the house (the kids called it "Blue Goat") so, after asking me to find it for them umpteenth times, I bought just this one DVD and at age 7, all three are running around the table and singing along with it. They say they remember doing this when they were "little". Fantastic fun for the price!!Read full review...

Baby Einstein- Baby VanGogh

This is an excellent DVD for kids. My one-year-old LOVES the Baby Einstein series so it is a MUST HAVE in my house. Sad as it sounds these DVD's are great for parents too, especially if you're trying to get some light housework done (they're only 30 minutes long!), but my daughter will stay so focused on the colors and the animals and the music is so calming so she stays in one place. All-in all I love this DVD and all the other Baby Einstein DVD's that we own...Read full review...

Teaches basic colors

Baby Van Gogh teaches basic colors using the Goat puppet and the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh. Each color (red, green, yellow, blue, & purple) has its own segment which begins with the goat 'painting' a Van Gogh then reinforces with other images of that color. My grandchildren love all the Baby Einstein series.Read full review...

Education at it's best.

Vivid colors, entertaining puppets, wonderful music to enhance learning. This DVD as well as all Baby Einstein DVD's are top of the line when it comes to keeping a child's attention as they incorporate music and education. It holds a child's interest even as a baby and then as the child gets older they are able to grasp the concept being taught. How many 2 and 3 year olds can identify a painting and it's artist.Read full review...

One of the best of the baby Einstein

The music soothes and the images stimulate the brain. Babies and tottlers love it. They learn while being entertained by classic music and art. I enjoy this one because it is developmental and simple but not too commercialized like later ones in the Baby Einstein series. It was a small company for a while before Disney bought them. A super show to buy and makes a great gift, too!Read full review...

From a grandmother and teacher

I have bought several (actually 8) of the Baby Einstein videos. The music is soothing. The images are so appealing. So many visuals are overly busy, complex, and are geared for the adults who buy them for their children. These seem to be done by those who know what really appeals to children. How can they be both stimulating and soothing? They keep it simple. They keep it moving. They keep it beautiful. Of course, I spend a lot of time on e-bay looking for the toys in the toy chest.Read full review...

Great for the money!

This movie is amazing for a baby or a toddler. The bright colors keep their attention and the songs are fun. My 2 year old loves this movie and wants to watch it over and over again. She dances to the music and can tell all her colors now. It even exposes them to art and the world of art which is great for them to see. Overall, this movie is an awesome addition for her education and I would recommend it to any parent!Read full review...
