Sony SRS-P7 - The passive ones

Sony SRS-P7 are passive speakers. Meaning they don't need additional power sources like batteries or electricity to amplify, just like a pair of headphones. The speakers are portable and their sound quality is nice for such small and passive speakers BUT but the maximum amplification is too low. Meaning your laptop's speakers may sound louder at full volume than the speakers. (These speakers don't have a volume knob by the way, so you need to control the volume from the computer or your electronic device). At this point you may be wondering whats the use of buying them? Well, these speakers are ideal for people who prefer to work alone in a quiet room.. with some soft music playing in the background. Or like when you're assigned a workspace in the university (eg. PhD grad students) and you don't want to disturb others with your music.

Party creatures - these speakers are NOT for you people at all.
Grad Students working late nights - go ahead (its cheap as well :)
Audiophiles - nah... get BOSE or Logitech.

Well-made but cheap for a reason

I like the speakers despite the fact that they are refurbished. But you get what you pay for. They don't amplify sound very well. When I plug the speakers into my laptop, the sound the sound is softer than it would have been without the speakers. I usually use the speakers to listen to my iPod and what's nice about them is that they are nice and compact. Good for a picnic in the park or going to the beach. But if you're planning on "cranking up the noise," then these speakers are not for you.Read full review...

Sony SRS-P7 speakers

Good sound in a very small and portable package. Perfect for playing background music while working around the house. Good sound, but obviously doesn't provide an avenue for high volume listening (high volume is not its intended use). IPod plugs right into it via the headphone jack and it requires no batteries or external power. If you want a system you can really crank up and party to, then this is not what you want. But if you're in the market for a compact MP3/IPod listening option and don't want to buy another sound dock...then I highly recommend this item.Read full review...

Easy hookup, tiny size.

I guess you get what you pay for. These speakers aren't much better than the stock speakers built in to the laptop. They are USB powered, they look OK, but are very small. The sound quality is what could be expected from a set that small, but I definately would not buy them to "upgrade" the sound of a laptop. If the speakers in your unit are blown, these make an excellent replacement. Easy to hook up, no power adapter needed, and very small. But the output is nowhere near the sound from a "powered" set of desktop speakers.Read full review...

Nice passive speakers

I wanted a set of speakers to connect to my vintage computer. I just wanted some means of hearing the output without any fuss with an external power source. I found these speakers and I'm glad I did. No, they do not have earth shattering bass, but who would honestly expect that from a set of passive speakers? Come on! If you want that, buy some POWERED speakers. Remember that these are nothing but glorified headphones on steroids, and they sound VERY good.

They also have a nice feature where you can connect the speakers together so they are easier to transport. I've also used them with my iPod, and they work well.

Good build quality as well, something you would expect from Sony.

So, I love these speakers. They were exactly what I was looking for. The price was right, too.

Substandard volume

The old saying "you get what you pay for" definitely rings true where these are concerned, i paid 10 bucks for a refurbished pair of these and thats about all they're worth in my opinion. If you just dont have any speakers for a pc at all and only need something cheap to get by on for awhile they'll work but dont expect much by way of sound or volume, the speakers are small and as such work as tiny cheap speakers do..high pitched/tinny sounding with a low overall volume output. To hear anything from em the volume has to be set pretty high and the output isnt particularly suitable for listening to music or anything where tonality and volume are necesary. Poor performance when compared with similarly priced logitech speaker systems.Read full review...

Great little speakers for my old Sony walkman cassette player

Even better sound than I hoped for, exactly what I need for listening to old cassettes when I'm relaxing and don't need loud volume. Icing on the cake is NO BATTERIES!!! I even bought an extra set to put in the closet and make sure I'm never without!Read full review...

Sony SRS-P7 2 Speakers

I like these speakers, good sound for as small as they are and they are very portable, which I like also. They work great with my iPod nano, especially when I am cooking and don't want my earplugs in the way and don't want to blow the little speaker my iPod has. The last ones I had blew one speaker and I had them for years and was in need of a new pair!!! I can set them up anywhere, thanks a bunch!!!Read full review...

sony srs-p7 2 speakers

i like that they are portable and don't need batteries. they are not very loud and you, but if you want to listen to them why you are reading or being quiet then they are good. You can hook them up to the computer if you so desire, but they are so low, even if you raise the volume on the computer you really can't hear them. They are better for an mp3 player as long as you stay in the same room to listen to themRead full review...

Worthless speakers!!

This is the kind of speaker that we used to have in the good old days which we attached with the walkmans. But now this is a sheer waste of money. Very low output of audio, no bass and terrible sound quality. The only novelty that it possesses is that it does not require USB port for power. it plugs into the audio jack of the laptop or your ipod and uses it as a power source. A real good feature but hoped that it had good sound quality to back that up.
Wanna buy speakers for cheaper? give the dock speakers available in the market a try, they are much better at the same price.
