Best bird book on the market

Excellent book. Very thorough and concise. Found photos and description of birds I've spotted, that aren't in other bird books I've owned. I believe it to be the best on the market.

One of my three favorites for bird identification.

Love this book. Had it checked out of the library for six weeks and used it frequently; the pictures are excellent. With it and National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America plus my old copy of Golden Guide to Field Identification Birds of North America I feel confident in all of the identifications I've made on eBird.com which, by the way, if you aren't using, give it a try -- you'll be helping science.Read full review...

A perfect learning tool for a very young bird watcher from Colorado!

When my 4 yr old granddaughter (who lives in CO) showed such a keen interest in birds, we ordered this book for Christmas. Her parents have used it as a learning tool. They date each bird sighting and read all about the little creatures and their habits. It is very detailed and beautifully illustrated. It's one of the best gifts we could have given the whole family!Read full review...

A little bulky and heavy for in the field.

It is a very comprehensive source of birding info. I appreciate that it shows the different plumages and phases of each bird.

Great book, large size is only drawback.

The Stokes field guide is probably the best bird book on the market. Audubon books are smaller and easier to pack but if size isn't an issue, buy this book. Plus, the CD on bird calls is great.

I would recommend this to any birdwatchers out there.

Excellent book. Very good descriptions and pictures. Had CD of sounds which is marginally helpful, would like to see pictures to go along with the sounds.

Excellent photo guide

I have a Sibley guide to North America. But, I wanted a guide that uses photos. I am very happy with this one. It has many photos of each bird: male and female, and immature plumage variations are shown. I have found it helpful in identifying a couple of warblers I recently saw in a park.Read full review...
