Great mute, less backpressure and nice sound

This is the mute Miles Davis used to play with. The back pressure is less than the Dennis Wick practice mute I used to use and the sound is much better. The Dennis Wick mute produced a muffled sound and it was hard to even tell if the quality of tone was good or the note was correct. This mute does a much better job. It does do a good job of reducing the volume too but not as much as the Dennis Wick. The main problem is the opening of the mute which goes into the horn is much bigger than most practice mutes so it falls out much easier. Besides that it is a great mute. Read full review...

Great diverse mute!

Very beautiful sounding mute! The interior slide adjuster changes the tone and feel of the trumpet which can add to your creativity. I take the mute slide adjuster out and I get a fuller tone that way.

Though it definitely lowers the sound of the trumpet by A little more than half I would not recommend to practice for it makes it more difficult to play. Original and still the best!!

I own many different harmon mutes. They all have a bit different sound. Some are designed to cut through a big band with a buzzy sound. Some, like the copper ones have darker timbres. But, to my ear, especially for recording, the original aluminum Harmon is the perfect blend of tone and buzz and distortion that gives the closest to that ideal Miles Davis sound!Read full review...
