Great quality screwdrivers!
So everyone has a screwdriver opinion - which brands to buy, which to avoid, Phillips or JIS, on and on. Here's my opinion, yours may be different. I often wondered why certain Phillips screws on Japanese motorcycles seemed to be made of soft cheese and rounded out. A wise friend set me straight, explained JIS, and why it was not the screws, but the screwdriver causing the problem. I bought Vessel screwdrivers and never looked back.
I have other brands of JIS screwdrivers, some stupid expensive, but these by far are the best in terms of comfort, longevity and quality, and price. The ability to remove a stubborn screw, either Phiilips or JIS - these work equally well at both - is over the top. Don't be afraid to throw a wrench on the tang, these will not round out the screw or cam out. TL:DR these are the best screwdrivers I've used in a couple of decades as aprofessional mechanic.
It's the most overlooked piece of information for mechanics. There are two types of screw heads that look like Phillips. One is a Phillips, and is actually designed to strip out.
The other is JIS or Japanese Industry Standard, and they are designed to work properly. Unfortunately no one knows the difference and that's why you keep stripping the heads of the screws out. (Pro tip, look for a single dot or punch mark on the head. That's JIS. Not always there but sometimes. Pretty much anything with a Phillips looking screw head on a Japanese or Asian vehicle is going to be jis)
This is a proper JIS screwdriver, with one of the best grips I've ever used. I've been using Vessel screwdrivers for about 5 years now, and the durability is excellent. I'm a professional motorcyle mechanic and these are the single most used piece of equipment in my toolbox.
A #2 cross fit head vessel screwdriver lasts around 4 years of constant use and even then I only replace them because of very minor wear that most people wouldn't worry about, so durability isn't a problem.
The grips are the best shape of any screwdrivers I've ever owned. I had what was supposed to be the blue ribbon of all screwdrivers, the new Snap On, and the Vessel allows easier grip in a broader range of positions. Years of use for hours a day and the grips are still in great condition.
The wrench fit for extra torque is extremely useful on a JIS screwdriver because the head won't cam out like it does with a Phillips, so you can actually use the extra torque to tighten or loosen without damaging the head.
I've been teaching apprentices for years, and JIS is still the single most overlooked piece of information when it comes to damaging screw heads. Stop getting it wrong and buy JIS head screwdrivers. And these are the best JIS screwdrivers available. Read full review...
