Does the job - very sensative

I figured I would write a review because the other one was written by someone who was upset with the vendor and not the product itself. The Holux GPSlim receiver is simply a gps receiver without a screen or any type of interface beyond an on/off switch. Most people who buy this are looking for a gps receiver to use with a phone / pda / or laptop...and they are going to connect via bluetooth. I use it with both a laptop and a pda and it works great. I don't have problems with the bluetooth connection dropping. (note: I do with a pda running windows mobile 5...only when I sleep the device... but I think that is more to do with the operating system because I don't have the same problem when using the holux receiver with my phone running windows mobile 6).

As for start up time, it is exceptionally quick. It works inside my wooden framed house which was a surprise because my other gps needs a clear view of the sky. I have the device installed inside my camper and I use an external antenna to make sure the connection stays strong. The gps performs WAY better than the one that comes with my stock cel phone. The GPSlim is one of the few with an external antenna plug so keep that in mind if that's what you need.

I like how I can turn it on and run it off the car charger and have it not turn off (i.e power saver function is disabled when externally powered).

I've heard that if you leave it on for days on end or leave it on the dashboard of your car on a hot summer day then you can fry it...but then again that is common sense.....and I don't drive for days on end without stopping so I have no need to continuously leave it turned on for extended periods of time.

IMPORTANT: I've noticed some people sell it "with a usb cable". A regular old usb cable will allow you to charge it off of a computer BUT if you want to configure it OR use it as a gps via usb and not bluetooth then you'll need a special cable from Holux. I'd ask the seller what type of cable it is...if they don't know then its probably NOT the special cable from Holux (which I heard has a funky black box connected to it)

I'd buy this again...I love it.

Holux GPSlim 236 Wireless Bluetooth GPS Receiver + Maps

I dislike that I have to receive an average product not delivered earlier and also not receiving the maps that was suppose to be included with the product. It took 37 days to receive the product. I needed the product earlier to do my school research, the lateness is not good and is below average or even poor performance. Also, It is misleading to market that maps will also be included with the gps receiver when it is not. Neverthless, I do not require the maps, I will just stick with the receiver for now because getting the maps might take another 37 days or more and lots more headache, energy, etc. Thus, even though the product is considered average compared to my other gps receivers, being really late delivering the product, and misleading me about getting maps should bring the product as a whole to being below average. I am being considerate by not giving it a poor. Any questions, please email me back.Read full review...

Accurate little gps, easy to modify as a logger

Bought this cheap thinking it was a logger, but it's just a bluetooth receiver. The USB connection is not usb, it's actually a serial output. I picked up an openlog (sparkfun) clone and wired it up using a couple points on the pcb. Now it's a gps logger.
Compared to the Holux M1000 receiver this has much more accurate altitude and was easier to mod as outlined above.

This GPS appears to work fine with my Android device.

This GPS appears to work fine with my Android device via Blue Tooth. It wasn't very expensive and is pretty small and easy to use.

There is no diplay for this product.

I had a USB Receiver by Holux before GPS units for your car got so cheap.

These are great little GPS receivers that use Bluetooth to communicate with your mobile devices. Easy to setup and use! Much more accurate then your phones own GPS!
