Bio of a man with remarkable access, insights and opportunities as a war reporter

Frederick Palmer is one of those men with whom I wish I could have spent an evening. His life spanned an era from horse drawn wagons to sputnik and all the wars from the Greco-Turkish to WWII. He was a war correspondent, author, lecturer, confidant of generals, admirals and presidents, and had an uncanny ability to predict the next war, its combatants, and tactics. A bit tedious at first, the author warms to his subject and ultimately does a wonderful job telling his story through letters, unpublished manuscripts, and published articles. Along the way you learn a great deal about other famous war reporters, presidents like Hoover and Teddy Roosevelt, and military icons like Dewey, Funston and Pershing from the perspective of a man who was greatly respected by all of them primarily because of his unimpeachable integrity. We need men like him today. Perhaps his story will inspire someone to become one.Read full review...
