Red series string is actually red, really nice resonance
I bought one of these to match with a set of Aquila super-nylgut to give me more tonal options on the Tenor. The sound is excellent, very rich resonance, and matches beautifully with the sound of the standard white Aquila nylgut strings.
It's also handy still having the white high G in case I want to play a show of more traditional Hawaiian music, where the high is more in line.
When the time comes to replace the whole set, I'll probably buy a full set of "reds" but in the meantime having one pinkish red string with the whites doesn't bother me in the least, especially with the smooth tonal transitions.
Highly reccommended for Tenor players wanting to experiment with the low G without outlaying a lot of money and throwing away 3 good strings.
One quick caveat - this string is quite a bit thicker than your standard (high) G, so it may be a bit tricky to wind through the machine head twice. I used a pair of needle-nose to catch the tip on the second run through and it wasn't too hard for me but I can definitely appreciate it might be a bit tricky for some.Read full review...
