Fabulous Family Entertainment

This is a fabulous family-oriented movie called "The Little Princess." The cinemotography is great and there is humor, action and suspense threaded throughout. The movie is an adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's book of the same title and features newcomer Liesel Matthews as the protagonist who must overcome some incredibly challenging circumstances, including a sinister lie that changes her life totally. All works out in the end and justice is served on the evil headmistress. This movie is highly recommended and received a well-deserved rating of 7.7 on IMDB (Internet Movie Database). Princesses Everywhere

The movie is a combination of factors: history, imagination and magic, friendship, and family . . . not to mention school, a grumpy school mistress, and an unhappy assistant who has fallen in love!>
True, it's not an action movie; there's very little violence seen (except for a few war scenes - the story takes place during World War One). It's good, clean, and "old-fashioned" type with family and friendships being the heart of the movie.

Two girls - one a poor black girl who finds herself being treated pretty much a slave, the other a white girl from India who finds out that her father was killed - form a unique bond.

Meanwhile, a monkey and an older fellow from India keep tabs on things.

Thanks to a neighbor who takes in a wounded soldier with amnesia, the India fellow and his monkey keep the soldier's daughter company next door ... until an unlikely reunion occurs, bringing father and daughter together once again.

For anyone who enjoys solid values and a bit of imagination!

I bought mine because I literally wore out the tape that I had - it's a movie that I've had for a long time and I still enjoy watching over and over again.Read full review...

A Little Princess (DVD, 1997)

My daughters LOVED this movie. I think this is one of those that will end up being a classic for may more decades to come! I also think my girls enjoyed it so much they will want to watch it one day with their own children. Very heart-warming.
When Sara Crewe's wealthy father is called upon to fight in the British Army, he enrolls her in Miss Minchin's School For Girls. There, Sara's imagination and gift for storytelling win over the other students -- but not the stern Miss Minchin, who immediately bans all make-believe on campus. However, Sara continues to tell her exotic tales late into the night, when the cranky headmistress is fast asleep. Then, one day, Miss Minchin coldly informs Sara that her father died in battle, and that the only way she can keep a roof over her head is to work as a servant. Sara loses her beautiful room and her fine possessions and moves into the cold, dark attic. But even as she scrubs the toilets and mops the floors, little Sara Crewe holds firmly to her belief that her father is still alive... and she'll do anything, even risk Miss Minchin's wrath, to discover the truth.

The Little Princess

This is my all time favorite children's movie. The story is about a little girl whose father is sent to fight in a world war. Because of this her father sends her off to a boarding school in America. (They are from England.)On the little girl's birthday, word is sent that her father has been killed. After this the real story begins. Her beliefs are tested and twisted.

This movie teaches children, not just girls, that you can survive, and you can believe, and "every girl everywhere is a princess."

I would recommend this movie to anyone. I am an adult and I still love to watch this movie.

A Little Princess

Some movies are for children; this one is for the child in all of us. It not only has fabulous and lavish color sets, but it also shows us we are never too old to believe, dream, and discover. Please do not confuse this movie with the Shirley Temple one. There is absolutely NO comparison. This is not a cutesie movie and it is not drenched with heavy sentimentality. It is truly magical! (even my husband liked this one!)Read full review...

Great adventure story with flavors of india

This is one of my favorite stories. It's about a brave little girl raised in India and how she deals with how life turns for her when she looses her father while at a boarding school in England. She tells wonderful stories from India with great scenes in wonderful colors. It's just a great interesting sometimes exotic story for kids and adults.Read full review...
