AKG quality in a very versatile mike

I use the AKG 420 for mic’ing guitar and backup vocals. A tube preamp is a must and really brings the warmth out of this large diaphragm mic. Very pleased with the noise floor and response as some of these FeT mics can bring a little harshness in the high end. With little eq’ing, this is a mic anyone with a decent studio should have in their mic locker. Read full review...

Compares to Mics costing 5 times the cost

AKG P420 is a large diaphragm (2 actually) multi pattern studio condenser mic. Some smart shopping on Ebay netted me a pair of these mics for far less than you would expect to pay for one good studio condenser.
On acoustic instruments or vocals, overheads on drums, they capture every nuance.
Huge Bang for the Buck.

Same excellent AKG quality

I have been using an AKG Perception 200, and the Perception 420 is the same great low price condenser mic, but with three pick up patterns, as well as a low frequency roll-off and 20 dB pad.

Great sound

Great mic, for the price it's a no brainer. I had a C414 decades ago, I sold all the stuff a long time ago. When I decided to get back into playing and recording I wasn't going to spend that much money again. The 420 close mics an amp terrifically. I'm very happy with it. This is a great deal with the cable and stand for the same price as others get just for the mic.Read full review...

Seem open and clean

Have only done minimal sound checking with it so far, but I like the open "airyness" of the sound. Specs shows it handles a really high SPL (especially for a condenser!). Fit and finish is high quality, like you'd hope an AKG product would be.Read full review...

Great Value in a Studio Quality Microphone

This large diaphragm condenser microphone compares favorably with studio microphones costing many times more in terms of sound quality and feature set. It comes from a company with a well established reputation in the professional audio field. This product represents an excellent value in professional studio type microphones.Read full review...

Great Sound/Great Value

I originally purchased a single P420 to record drums with a single mic in Omni and it sounded great! I’m now using a pair of these as drum overheads. These mics are extremely solid in build quality and sound quality.Read full review...

Good intermediate pro level demo mic for lead vocals. Great little cheap package. Case is cool too

Not a 414 but It's a damn decent quality vocal singer mic. I'll bet I can use it well as a room drum set mic some way too.

AKG P420

Very good side rejection. Pad and low cut function as they should. The only bad thing is that it's somewhat sterile compared to their more expensive mics but it's dirt cheap in comparison. Hard to beat for the price.Read full review...
