I still have a set of these I bought in1984. They still work great but the tone has changed a little over that time, I had to do my first repair to them a week ago. Lightweight with great sound

These are my favorite headphones - I have tried many sets of headphones over the years, and I keep coming back to the K240. It's the most comfortable headphones I know, they cover the ear, but not so tightly that it makes your ears sweat. They have a removable cable, and the sound is great. I don't know, there is just something magical about the Sextetts. Now with that said, I should mention as some people know, there are 3 versions. All orange baffle holes, orange ring around the edges, and all white. It took me buying all 3 versions, and then multiples of the middle version before I found the "magical" pair that I have now.

As far as the K501, K601, K701/702, I found the treble emphasis that all these have really annoying for their lack of bass. (Yes, I have the proper amplification.) I do like the 501's more than the 601's, and the 601's more than the 701/702's, but I still like the Sextetts more than all of those. Much more bass to balance those crisp yet revealing and not overly bright highs and robust mids.

The current Studios (Mk II's) do come close, but I still find the old Sextett to be a better all around headphone.Read full review...

This is a best buy - definitely recommended!

I finally decided to get high quality audio gear and after buying Marantz amplifier the next step were the headphones. After asking for advice from my audiophile friend I ordered these headphones. I was simply amazed at the quality of the sound - it's neutral, has great depth and space quality to it.
Dislike - the cable is a little bit short and hard to detach, but neither of these things is really a problem.

It's ok

Output level is quite low. I've never tried any other reference headphones but it would be nice to hear it louder when connected to my iPad or iPhone.
