Nice

For an "older" CPU that is being used for a "budget build" desktop upgrade, I am very shocked at the speed my desktop now operates at (I spent around $50 for the CPU and motherboard together (I upgraded from a stock MB to an MSI 785GM-E51 MB), like I said its a "very budget friendly" build/upgrade). The online game I am currently playing used to be very laggy, I could not have my 2 characters in the same room, now runs like hot butter and I can have both characters in the same room all night long. The speed at which I can flip thru multiple website pages and tabs is amazing to myself. All in all, this CPU in my opinion runs "PHENOMENALLY".. I would recommend this CPU to anyone that has a very limited budget and wants to upgrade their desktop from stock to something better.Read full review...

OLD CHIP OLD MOBO

This cpu may or may not work in my old xfx geforce 8200 mobo, the mobo is rated for 125w processors but when i install the Processor it bottlenecks down to 800MHz and i cannot get it to work properly. also 2 slots of my RAM fail to work when the processor is installed. i am trying to get a response from XFX to see if there is a more up to date BIOS for this board in the hopes it can support this Phenom Processor. if it doesnt work i will just have to scrap the old girl and build a new RYZEN based pc.

A GOOD PROCESSOR

The AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE is a good processor that is standing the test of times. The performance far exceeds the old duo-core processors that AMD use to make. When this processor first came out I could not afford to own it. So I waited for the prices to come down in order to upgrade my duo-core processors. I'm very surprised and rather impressed with this seller, turns out they are very reputable as a seller. Processor booted the system right away without any delays. I have upgraded all my computers to quad and double quad (8 core) processors. Makes the applications faster than before. I usually don't give a 5 star review to a seller, but this seller has earned the 5 star rating I gave them. Read full review...

Great price, great performance, I highly recommend these!

Very happy with this processor. Was running an Athlon II X2 and, naturally, this Phenom is substantially faster. One program in particular, that does a lot of text processing, shows just how fast the difference is. Its a parser for an MMORPG and after playing for a night it has a ton of data built up from recording all of the fights. When you reset the data, with the Athlon, it would take a minute to get rid of all of the data. Once it even locked up the computer freezing my game for a minute while it processed. Now, with the Phenom, if I click to clear all data it appears as if nothing had happened. I go the data screen and it is all already gone. That is the speed difference of this thing, absolutely amazing.

Was also able to easily overclock to right over 3.6 GHz using my mobo's built in auto overclock feature (7% overclock). I'm able to get it to 3.7 GHz pretty easily but every now and then the BIOS doesn't seem to like it so I'm just keeping it at 3.6. I'm sure someone that knows more about OC'ing could pull of more much easier than I can but I'm perfectly happy with where it is running and the price.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 has taken my computer to a whole new level..!!!

I am very pleased with the AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Processor. It has taken my computer to a whole new level where I can make things work way a lot faster especially with video editing.

My Motherboard is an ASUS M4A785-V EVO, Socket Type: AM3, previously run by a Phenom II Dual-Core Callisto @ 3.1 GHZ. I thought I had the processing power I needed but fell short of my expectations. So basically I had to wait the right moment for some upgrades when buying this little Quad-Core guy, like installing a 64-bit operating system, expanding the memory to 12 Gigabytes, installing a new video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti) and a hard disk drive upgrade to a Solid State Drive.

I can't ask for more when talking about AMD Phenom II X4 965. It's just awesome! No need to invest in a new system. I definitively recommend it not only to my friends, but to anyone.

Works great

installed on HP p6518f desktop with Mother Board -FoxConn 2A92. Good speed with the 4 cores (office work not gaming). Shipping was fine and on time. Had it installed at computer shop since I had some other work done while there, but it would be pretty easy to install yourself. All pro's no con's. Read full review...

Feb 2011 - Great bang per buck CPU - with Feb 2017 UPDATE

I bought the AMD X4 965 3.4GHz CPU because my previous processor (X2 5600+) was over 3 y/o already. Even tho I could play every game without problems, and encode videos in a reasonable time, I needed something new and more powerful without spending a ton in it. Also, the less time I spend encoding videos, the more time I have to do other things.

With this CPU and its four cores it was possible for me to reduce the encoding time of a 5 minute After Effects video, from 26 minutes to 6 minutes. Also, I am a gamer and the frames per second in all games I currently play have doubled, and in some games, tripled.

It can overclock like crazy with the proper cooling, motherboard and RAM. It is running at stock speed now because I don't need to overclock it, but I used it at 4.1GHz with the OEM fan and heat sink for a week and was stable. I pushed it to 4.3GHz and was stable too. The only thing I don't like is the stock fan because it is VERY noisy. Aside from that, there are no cons.

I definitely would buy this CPU again for any of my other computers. If you are looking for a fast, overclock-able and inexpensive CPU, this is it.

February 2017 UPDATE: six years later, this processor is working perfectly. The motherboard I bought with it died 1.5 years ago and I bought a better one, and the processor continues running smoothly. No problems at all. The only thing I need to do with that computer is upgrade the video card every 3 years so I can play the latest games.

A Most Excellent CPU

I upgraded from a 2 core to this 4 core. My Gigabyte board and Win 7 32 bit had no problem. It did perform an automatic driver upgrade upon a subsequent boot up. My son, who is a 16 yr old avid PC gamer, ran it for approximately 10 hours straight on a Saturday and 8 hours the following Sunday. Not a single problem. It is perfect and performs well enough for the young PC game crowd.Read full review...

AMD Phenom II X4 965 IS PHENOMENAL

I bought two of these from the same seller (new). I "flipped" one chip for some cool profit and kept one for myself. These CPU chips are old quad cores, but they still perform and work great on most of the newer DDR3 AM3 socket motherboards. So if you can find one in new condition, then get it! The CPU works just as good as the AMD FX-4350. Compare this CPU with the FX-4350 Quad Core and only real difference is speed-- FX-4350 @ 4.2 GHz vs Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4 GHz. For gaming 3.4 GHz is plenty good and these are a cheaper alternative to the newer CPUs.Read full review...

Excellent Deal

true quad core, unlocked multiplier, great price and if your a current AMD user with an AM2+ or an AM3 mobo you don't have to buy another mobo to upgrade. Just update the BIOS as needed. Definitely worth buying.

Some heat output with 125w cpu, but nothing that can't be controlled with a good quality thermal paste and a good heatsink.

I've used both intel and AMD for over 20 years and AMD has always provided a good bang for your buck. This CPU can definitely handle any game out there. I can't speak to encoding video etc, but this was a definite improvement over AMD 64X2 dual core overclocked at 3.6ghz.

Not too bad for a used one

Ive had this CPU for about 3 weeks, at first it seemed a little slow but after a day it kicked into gear and works great. Running Fallout 4 on ultra settings. The price is unbeatable compaired to getting an I-3 or I-5 intel.Read full review...
