Prompt shipping. Opened box to a visually professional packaged box. CPU clean & straight pins. Heatsink was a direct fit; though the plastic locker tore on the thin side I was able to hold it in place and lock it down. Since 6am it has installed updates, rebooted, handled simultaneous chat windows, teamspeak, guild sites & the StarWars MMO. 11.5 hours later still no issues. Other components working with this processor are: Biostar TA970 motherboard, Sapphire 6750 video card, Western Digital 1TB SataIII HDD, 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X (2x4GB), connected to a generic brand 650w power supply, and running Windows 8.1. Viable CPU to run today's productivity applications.

I replaced my custom PC's AMD Athlon 64 X2 (dual-core) CPU with the AMD Phenom 2 X6 (six-core) CPU. There is no more latency while running Linux 20.x LTS along with productivity applications like spreadsheets and transitioning between or among open applications. My systemboard's vendor's product specifications recommend DDR2 1066 RAM when installing the Phenom CPU, but it will run on DDR2 800 RAM. Keep in mind that Ubuntu Linux, in particular has low system requirements, and so the 8 GB RAM in the PC is ample. It is also good to know that I can use the Phenom 2 X6 with AM3+ systemboards in the future in order to take advantange of RAM beyond the 16 GB limit the AM2 systemboards have.

I also now use the PC with the Phenom to run DNS caching service and Squid proxy service for my home office and contribute idle CPU time to Boinc distributed computing projects.

For those considering incremental upgrades even to older AMD computer systems with an AM2, AM2+ or AM3 CPU socket for home or small office, you may consider the Phenom II series provided you do the research, first. You don't necessarily need to spend hundreds of dollars to access better computer performance for modest computing needs. Read full review...

upgrade your motherboard inexpensively!

system seems quite fast now. had to upgrade bios, best done from command shell environment thru USB, not windows (XP) app, almost lost the MB, froze in the middle of the upgrade. Recognized the processor when I fixed the bios thru the USB upgrade process. Still doesnt pick up the extended memory on the boot screen though, motherboard issue I suppose.Read full review...

Resurrected an older PC

This AMD Phenom replaced a dual-core Athlon CPU in an older 2011 PC and resurrected it. Video editing is now smooth, and easy, not choppy as with the old CPU, and Lightroom seems to just fly in converting RAW images. Great investment. I will get a few more years out of this old machine. Easy upgrade for AM2+ motherboard.

I have an ASUS AM2/AM3 ready motherboard that had a 4 core 9750 AM2 plus processor on it. After a few years of great performance, I decided I wanted to upgrade my system. I checked the prices of new separate components, and motherboard/CPU bundles and decided that I couldn't get better performance for the amount of money I wanted to spend. After I checked the ASUS website I saw that my motherboard would support newer 6 core AM3 processors, and I found a good deal for one on E bay. The processor came in just a few days, and I installed it.

It did take a couple of tries to get everything to work together, but after re-seating the memory and trying several times to get the aftermarket CPU cooler/fan to work, everything worked fine.

The system benchmarks substantially higher than it did before, and if I want to upgrade my system I can use it in an AM3 and AM3 plus motherboard.

I recently purchased an ASUS AM3 motherboard and installed this processor in it, as before with the AM2+ motherboard it was an easy install, and made the older motherboard benchmark as fast as an AM3 system.

this CPU works great, this little performer has a good punch packed in it. This cpu really does perform like the new cpus, i used this im my wifes computer that had a windows rating of 3.5 after i installed this it rated the same as my Fx 8300 8 core to a 5.6 ! very good CPU for the price ! AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8 Ghz Processor

This AMD processor is extremely fast and with six cores there is not much that it can not do. Compared to Intel's six core processor this is quite the bargain and with software coming out everyday that utilizes more cores there is no reason not to consider AMD.
Also the fact that even though this is a Socket AM3 processor many motherboards with AM2+ sockets will accept it with only bios update and it will even work in some AM2 boards also. (You have to check the motherboard manufacturer's website to be sure)
Given this processors inexpensive price tag and AMD's willingness to provide excellent compatibility I can not praise this processor and AMD enough and it even comes with a fairly well built and extremely effective stock heatsink and fan.
