Best bang for buck CPU at the moment

The best value CPU on the market at the moment, 6 cores 12 threads, like an i7 with less GHz for the price of an i3!

AMD is on a winner with Zen architecture, the performance gap has dramatically shrunk compared to the previous, pathetic A series chips, making AMD in general a good buy again.

This particular CPU is the price/performance sweet spot for gamers looking at FHD 60FPS+ gaming in current titles. Yes, an i5 8000 series would be better for games, but it also costs at least a hundred more, which you can put into the graphics card instead & get more bang for your buck.

With this particular CPU the only downsides are no integrated graphics and the little Wraith Stealth included cooler is pretty marginal on this CPU if you fully load it up (think Handbrake encoding for hours pegging all cores, not gaming), ideally they should have shipped it with a Wraith Spire. If you don't overclock however it'll be fine, and you can always get a big air cooler or AIO or whatever later if money is tight.

by TOP CRITICAL REVIEW

Excellent value for $200AU in 2019

Installation of AM4 CPUs is more difficult than LGA115X, for someone who doesn't have steady hands. Use the boxed cooler or a cooler that uses screws, not the AMD latches, they are unwieldy and leave marks on the heatspreader.
This CPU can operate with DDR4 ECC UDIMMs on certain Gigabyte, ASUS and Asrock motherboards, but ECC isn't 'supported' or validated by AMD, and ECC UDIMMs aren't binned like Gamer DDR4.
This chip is good buy for 2/3s of the price of the Ryzen 5 3600, if it comes with the cooler, in late 2019.

Impressive performance

Comparing with similar solutions like i5-7600K, the R5-1600 has a similar performance even working at a lower speed (R5 at 3.2-3.6 GHz vs i5 at 3.8-4.2 GHz), is cheaper, has lower TDP (it's stock cooler is enough for working) and has more cores/threads for virtualisation... it's just what I need.Read full review

Great Chip

Great product but if you plan to put it into a B350 or X370 motherboard you will need to upgrade the bios on those boards, from manufacturers website, using a 1st gen Ryzen chip else it wont boot. Once bios is upgraded replace with the second gen chip like this one and it will run brilliantly. Or else pay 'a little' more just get the new B450 or X470 motherboards. Great Chip!Read full review

Better value and performance vs the competition

The Ryzen 5 2600 is the best value for money processor on the market. For 200AUD (what i paid) it's an absolute steal and almost as fast as the almost 500AUD 8700K in most tasks save for gaming. Even in gaming the 2600 performs amazingly well alongside a GTX 1070 or Vega 56. Not to mention the AM4 socket still has some even more impressive CPUs on the way should you ever feel the need to upgrade.Read full review

Sweetest spot for value and performance in 2017

The best value currently out there while being reasonably affordable for everyone that has been waiting on a significant upgrade path.

Four threads is what an everyday user would need at most, but the twelve on this beast will most definitely secure a solid amount of future proofing for years to come. You will multi-task, work, browse, and game with absolutely no lag whatsoever, as everything occurs in a snap.

The included cooler does not have RGB, but it isn't too important, as its cooling performance is almost identical aftermarket coolers. It can handle a significant overclock if you ever need that additional raw compute power.

The included sticker looks awesome as well, definitely something to be proud of to stick onto your case. Overall, everything from the visual design of the box, to the packaging is superb, secure and aesthetically pleasing.

I rate full stars. Bravo to the design and engineering team behind this legendary product! The PC atmosphere was certainly shaken for the first time in a decade.

A CPU that won't break your bank and performs well

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 was easy to install and found Ryzen 5 2600 to work better in B450 Motherboards particular MSI B450 Mortar and MSI B450 Tomahawk.
For a budget build, Ryzen 5 2600 is a decent cpu that you can purchase without emptying your wallet.Read full review

Good product

Upgraded my old system and this appeared in many budget (under $800 for MOBO, CPU, RAM, GPU & SSD) builds.

Performs well, fan seems quiet enough but have not had it under high load for long periods.

MOBO: ASUS PRIME B450M-A
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz (apparently can only hit 2400mhz OC'd)
GPU: MSI AMD Radeon RX 580 ARMOR 8GB
SSD: Samsung Evo 970 Plus 500GB
