Arris TM822G - Terrific modem - Install easy and not easy.

The TM822G is a terrific Docsis 3.0 modem. I get 8 solid downstream channels and 3 upstream.
My service is the Comcast 75 Mbps and I get about 90 Mbps down and 6.0 Mbps up.

Installation of the one that I got was problematic for two reasons, both addressable:

1. It was a used modem that had been previously provisioned on the Comcast network, thus the guided provisioning that should have occurred didn't work. When I called Comcast, apparently they couldn't tell that a modem was previously provisioned on their network. So I spent a lot of time with a pleasant Comcast person and then gave up.

When I called back and told them it had been previously provisioned, it took a while but it got set up successfully.

2. When I tried to get it working with my router, that didn't work. After numerous attempts on my own, I then spent some time with a not very knowledgeable Comcast person and then gave up.

I was about ready to box it up and return it when I came across some notes from the last time that I had problems setting up a new router with my Comcast modem. I followed them to a T and the modem and router connected on the first try. They are at below. (Note: After my initial router set up I have not had to follow these instructions.

To reset Comcast modem/wireless
Router connection

1. Unplug the Ethernet cable that connects the Comcast modem and the wireless router.

2. Reset the Comcast modem by using the paper clip to depress the switch in the small round hole on the bottom of the modem.

3. After the Comcast Modem restarts (once two lights come on) immediately plug the Ethernet cable back in. Then wait a few minutes for them to establish communication.

Note: This will not work if you let the modem finish its restart or if you plug the Ethernet cable in before it begins its restart.

Didn't get a chance to use it

My ISP (WAVE Broadband) would not support the telephony function of the modem, so I never got a chance to try it out.
I was told that it would support my internet, but no phone service.
Apparently, the only place to get an internet/telephony modem for WAVE is from WAVE.Read full review...

Perfect modem, for Optimum

Optimum had us down, for only 10 minutes, the largest part of which was the physical cable switching and synchronizing of the new modem, to their system. After that, we were back up, at a 1Gb transfer rate. This is a perfect modem, for those who are tired of paying Optimum that monthly rental fee, for the modem they supply. All you need do is call Optimum, give them the CMAC number, printed on the back of your new modem, then swap the power and data cables, all of which are in identical positions to their old modem. They do the rest, remotely, to activate the new modem.Read full review...

Overall good broadband modem w/VOIP

Good modem with VOIP support. It also features and lithium battery backup that can keep it going for hours in case of a sever power failure in the mains.

There is nothing wrong with setting up a small air fan near this modem (and/or your wifi router, too). Such fan would keep your Internet/LAN devices working longer AND noticeably more stable.Read full review...

Works with NJ optimum 200 Mbp

It works fine with my internet provider Optimum in NJ. However, sometimes there is a lag or speed reduction that I think it is the Optimum problem not the product issue since I have tested multiple modems with different brands. Optimum has certified only a few brands and models and this modem is one of them. Although it works better than others for continuous and reliable connection, but still it has some issues with Optimum. Nonetheless, this modem works better than rivals with Optimum. Arris TM 822G

This is actually the second Arris TM 822G I've purchased. The new one was for my mother and will have paid for itself in 3 months now that she no longer has a monthly rental fee. I've had mine for a bit over two years and have been completely stratified with performance for my needs. A word of caution though, Xfinity X1 wireless requires that you use their equipment. It will not work with other wifi routers per Comcast Read full review...

Works fine. Supported by Comcast.

This is the only telephone and internet modem that Comcast seems to support at the moment. I had no trouble getting the internet up and running after a call to Comcast, but I had to have a tech come out to get the phone connection working. All he ended up doing was having the dispatcher work with it on their end and in about 15 minutes of waiting for the dispatcher it was working fine. Seems that the issue was on Comcast's end and nothing to do with the modem.

Having a battery back up is possibly overrated. If your phones are cordless, it's likely they are not going to work if your power goes out anyway.

I have no complaints. It has had no issues handling our 50+Mbps internet and phone line. I would suggest speaking with your local office to ensure that they indeed allow customer owned voice modems before purchasing.

Arris TM822G cable modem experience.

I am using Comcast (XFINITY) here in south central PA and it works very well. I called Comcast and they asked for the brand, part number and CMAC number. They got the internet working first and then transferred me to the telephone department. Took about 15 minutes to have it working.Read full review...

Good deal

I bought this as a refurb. I paid the equivalent of 5 months rent from the cable company. It will pay for itself quickly. It is more reliable than the one I was renting as it does not require a reset every few days as did the other. It was a long and tedious process to get it set up by the cable company, but I might attribute that to their lack of knowledge rather than the modem itself. Very happy with the buy.Read full review...

Excellent replacement for leased Comcast telephony modem

Achieves the same download/upload speeds as the Comcast leased modem that it replaced. Added a wireless router and its a perfect setup. The wireless router was a very cheap TP-Link unit that somehow has just as good range and strength as the Comcast leased modem, if not a bit better. Fax machine plugged into the phone jack on the back also works as intended. Setup requires some time on the phone with a Comcast tech. Be patient as they configure it and make sure they turn on telephony jacks if you are using them for home phone/fax. No more equipment lease fees to comcast, will pay for itself in less than a year.Read full review...
