Just works with newer BT devices. Pairing is required for just the device, not the dongle itself. Have an older BT3 dongle and it would not connect to my new BT5 keyboard. I plugged it directly into a front usb3 port but with a BT5 KB and BT5 mouse it was too laggy. TBH, BT is really only good if you either have no usb port, like on a tablet or chromebook or whatever. I keep my KB wired atm, and my mouse is running the 2.4Ghz dongle instead. My desktop has a bt/wifi adapter but I'm using the slot for an 860EVO to boot from atm. At least until my new laptop arrives that is. I want to put the desktop PC to bed, mount a mini pc to the back of my TV, and run with just the laptop and the mini pc.
