A great little motherboard

Power in a small package I was looking for an upgrade for a nice aging HP pavilion a720n 32bit end life desktop.
Well this Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Motherboard seemed to be the fit for this pc sporting a 3.0 usb What no fire wire ah well never used anyhow. Has a am 3 PLUS! Socket excepting most AMD multi core processors am3 family for sure DDR 3 Ram. This board a 500 watt PSU laying around some spare ram and an extra AMD Quad core CPU. Put this thing together and presto a Supercharged Sleeper . Away it ran no problem .What do you know works perfect! Who knows maybe it plays Possum for some folks but not for me ran right out the box if I had to chase it I don't think I could catch it . Its fast enough. Great upgrade for that well loved older pc or even a new build . Asus is still a big hit with me with this little motherboard its all good affordable too!Read full review...

Excellent performance

PROS:

This motherboard is full of features and abilities. It gives the PC enthusiasts the ability to Over Clock an unlocked processor, like the AMD FX-4300 3.8 GHz Quad-core processor, safely. No Jumper configuration needed. The motherboard has the ability to control the Speed of the Processor from 1.5 GHz for the light loads to 4 GHz for the heavy loads and adjusts the FSB and RAM accordingly. BIOS is simple to use and configure the hardware.

CONS:

ASUS no longer supports the motherboard as of 2014. The motherboard supports Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. However, the software (ie. AI Suite) supplied with the motherboard does not work on Windows 8 and above. There haven't been any problems with the drivers working on Windows.

Terrific Business Use Motherboard

Terrific general business use motherboard. the i3 4 CPU chip is terrific and fast enough for me for general web viewing, and is NOT a gaming CPU chip! I coupled this motherboard with a fast SSD system disk containing Win 10 and love it. I suspect I'll get a decade or so of dependable use out of it. I am a happy camper with this MB. :-)Read full review...

Good gaming setup!

The combo provided worked excellent! The FX 8320e is fast enough to run any game I need to including Fallout 4. 4gb of ram won't get the job done, but the motherboard has 4 memory slots and adding the 8gb I already had from my old system boosted this setup to just what I needed. I couldn't buy a comparable system as cheaply as I could build one with this combo pack, and it's all brand new. Add some more ram and a high end video card to this setup and it will do pretty much anything you need it to.Read full review...

Budget Hackintosh

If you can live with Sata2 (3GB/sec) storage, no m.2 and maybe no Handoff & Continuity (w/o specialty WiFi in the x1 slot) this is a really nice Mac Pro equivalent. Not a good fit for AAA games. But a GT 710 2gb graphics card powers 2K and dual monitored at 1k each. Nice! Read full review...

Excellent for the money

I have been rebuilding computers for several years, staying with AMD, and lately remaining with ASUS. I do not build gaming machines, but machines for writing, calculating, music, and graphics. This model board has been plugging away for a couple of years so far and right now, with an SSD, 8 GB of RAM, and Win 10 is about as fast and powerful as I could want. I give only 4 stars because it is not top-of-the-line and I don't want ASUS to get complacent.Read full review...

Works Flawless with AMD FX (8320E) CPU and 1660ti GPU

I have tried other boards with my specific configuration and had poor, unreliable results (namely ASROCK). Upon installing and booting this board, the quality of the board was quite apparent. ASUS is a trusted brand, so I was already confident in my purchase. Does not disappoint. Also, this mATX board has 4 DDR3 RAM slots, supporting a total of 32GB. Highly recommend.

Note: To use USB 3.0 front chassis header, you will need to purchase a separate PCIe 1x USB 3.0 expansion card with header connection.

Desktop Upgrade

I had an "aging" Asus CM-1740 desktop that I wanted to upgrade at a reasonable price point rather than fully replace as yet.

This mb/cpu combo met and exceeded my needs and the support from the seller could not have been more forthcoming. Replacing the mb could not have been more simple EXCEPT for one unforeseen issue, the plug from the desktop tower power switch did not match/fit where it needed to be attached to the mb. Surprised that Asus had not included an adaptor with the new mb to cover that issue. Needed to take to local PC shop for a quick fix. This can be an issue with somewhat older computers. All is now well and the speed increase and ability to run multiple "heavy" programs is now possible when needed.

Highly recommend this seller for your computing needs based on reliability, price, and excellent customer service.

Worth every penny.

This is my fourth build using the ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 Socket AM3+USB3.0 and it performs as expected. This one is a little older than previous builds but with undeniable performance.

Great MB for Linux Servers.

This is an inexpensive motherboard with onboard video that works well for my purposes.

I generally use these types of motherboard with Linux as servers. With 6 sata ports, I can install an SSD for the host operating system and up to 5 - 4 tb drives in a raid 5 configuration to support up to 16 tb of network storage.

They seem to be reliable as I have an identical setup that has been online 24/7 for over a year now.

I generally use quad or six core AMD processors because they are inexpensive and give great performance in these boards.
